Getting dd into bed from cot

We tried yesterday to get our dd who is 2 years old into her own bed but she would not go in! Well she got in for a bit but as soon as my dh left the room she was crying and getting out! I know it was her first time but what can you do? We would have left it until she is older but we need the nursery to put our other dd from the crib in our room to the cot as she is 5 months and is getting too big! Any ideas appreciated. Dh is going to get a dimmer switch today to see if that will help as she might have been scared with the light off although she is ok in the cot in the dark. Steph xxx

If you can, don't hurry. Let your DD read books in the bed with you or your DH, before bedtime, then go into her cot, for a few nights. Let her get used to the bed, before expecting her to sleep all night in it.

I agree with that advice - keep the bed in the same room as the cot for a few days (or in the living room if no room in her room) and just let her play on it, read on it, let it generally become part of her room. This worked a treat with my DS. Let her have some fun with it and then she won't be so unsure I hope! Good luck.

Thanks for the advice ladies but we managed to get her in her bed first night not until 10.30 but by the 4th night it was 7.30 but she tends to wake up earlier between 5.30 and 7 might need to invest in some blackout curtains as it is lighter in her room then the nursery. This is her second week and she is doing quite well.
