Eating in this heat

DD is right off her food. She's usually a really good eater but the past 2 days she's just hardly eating anything. At least half her usual amount. She's not drinking much more either.

I don't think she's teething again (she's 10mo) as no other symptoms like before when she cut her bottom teeth. I am only guessing it's to do with the heat. She's fine in herself otherwise.

How do you get your LOs to eat? And what do you give them when it's so hot?

TIA

I'd give her some ibruprofen before her milk, then offer her solids an hour later.

Have you tried making your own ice lollies?

They are like you, do you fancy lots of food in this heat? I don't!
For the drinking, if you are worried about drinking, try to offer something more attractive than water like squash or diluted juice.

My ds (11 months) is exactly the same. Usually he is a right guts but the heat definitely knocks it out of him. He will have lots of watery fruits though - satsumas/ nectarines etc.

Fingers of watermelon, pineapple and mango are my beat friends during this heat. dS (9months) demolishes them

Normally she loves her fruit but she's not really fussed about that either. Did get a kiwi down her at lunch and half a peach after a breadstick and a knobble of cheese for dinner.

Lollies might be worth a try - good call. I picked some blackberries yesterday and I've got some yoghurt in the fridge. Mmmmm!!

I might do some soup tomorrow. Easy to eat and easy to get loads of vits into her at the same time.

Honestly, don't worry. A day or two of not eating 'properly' really won't matter. As long as she is getting fluids then don't stress.

I have a 13mo DC. Some days she eats like a horse and other days she survives on air. As valpollicella said, if it's just few days it won't hurt. I do like the 'food's for fun until they're one' idea. They're really just experimenting with food until then.

My dd went like this a few weeks ago and it turned out she had a bacterial throat infection. She was her normal self but refused food and started to refuse milk. I took her to the doctors and they said she was fine - as long as she was making wet nappies she was fine and would eat when hungry. 5 days later she was suddenly really poorly in herself. I took her to the doctors and saw a different GP who practically ripped my head off, demanding to know why I had let her get so bad. It was only when she saw that I had bought her in a few days before and the other doc had said she was fine that she mellowed towards me. The scariest thing for me was that there were no other signs to begin with other than the food refusal, but when she went downhill it was so fast. With your little one it is most likely the heat, but if it continues I would suggest getting her checked out just in case. My dd ended up on a 14 day course of antibiotics and we had to go the the hospital to check intravenous antibiotics werent needed. x

Thanks for the warning MamaBear. So far she seems fine. Surviving on pureed food. It's like she's 6mo again!! Tbh regressing to purees might be sign of sore throat so I'll just keep my eye on her over the next few days.
