Hi,
My Son is 13mths and has confirmed chicken pox! He seems very happy today but I am aware that tomorrow could be so different! Any tips/advice greatly received.
Kind regards x

Get some PoxClin from Boots. It's a foam which goes on easily and dries without being sticky. Much better than anything else and my DD didn't seem bothered by itching so it must have worked. Plenty of Calpol aswell as DD seemed very under the weather the day after the first pox arrived. It lasted about a week and we stayed at home so having lots of DVD's and crafty stuff to do is a good idea. I did take her to the park on one occasion but it was deserted so wasn't worried about that. Once the scabs were healed I took her back to nursery and that was that. I haven't had the pox myself so was worried I would get it but luckily it passed me by.
Anyway Good luck with DS and hope it passes easily.

dc1 had chickenpox itching so bad he was hallucinating! Got fantastic meds from gp (vallergan, don't think they prescribe it now) worked amazingly. other 3 children had extremely bad itching but didn't hallucinate! plenty cool baths to help relieve itching.

We found that calamine aqueous cream was far more effective and easier to apply than the traditional lotion.

Piriton was a godsend to help them get to sleep, but neither ds's liked the taste so we'd combine it with calpol.

wish piriton had made mine sleep ....

Second the Piriton and Cream as opposed to the lotion. Id been told the lotion can dry out the skin making it even more itchy.

Thankfully neither of my girls suffered with it and seemed happy enough in themselves.

I like to think that the piriton didn't make them sleep, just eased the itching so that they could sleep! Wink

I had a crash course in Chicken Pox with DS a few weeks ago, with a refresher from DD two weeks later! I was going to say pretty much exactly what Redbunny said. Good luck - wine for mums too!
