Can I have a bit of a brag??? Please???

I know bragging is unseemly, etc etc, but sometimes I just feel the need to share all my exciting news.

So.... I got a first for my degree. I think I have mentioned that on here before. I am very proud of myself - because it is a huge achievement for me (at the age of 39 and having left school at 17 with no A levels). In addition to which life in the Oak Tree has not been all happy this year - in fact it has been very far from happy, but that is a whole series of namechanged threads....

So I went to Graduation - and it was the biggest boost for my confidence that I could have had. I was awarded the Faculty Award (not entirely sure why, but still very exciting, and came with a cash prize...). The programme director has asked me to present my dissertation (for which I received a commendation) as a paper in an upcoming Education conference. Two lecturers asked me to come back to the uni next year and do guest lecture spots for their modules.

And I was being "encouraged" by several lecturers to apply for a research post at the uni. Which I am not going to do, as I have a place on a PGCE for this year, but is lovely anyway.

It was all so exciting. I am really pleased with myself. I just needed to pat myself on the back publicly (but not in front of people I know, cos then they will think I am a show off. Which I am... but still...).

Thank you for listening. :)

A well deserved congratulations! If I were you I'd be shouting it from the roof.

So, when are you opening the champagne...?

chicaguapa · 17/08/2012 13:12

Very well done! This could be my story too (First, 39, no A levels) and there has been a distinct lack of congratulations in RL. So fair play to you for blowing your own trumpet on here.

It must be a real boost to your confidence. You can apply to do the research job in the future, when you've had enough of teaching people who don't care about learning. Wink

Well done! That is an amazing achievement, you have every reason to be very proud of yourself. If I even get a pass for my degree I will be shouting from the rooftops Grin

Under the circumstances you're entitled to brag!

onedev · 17/08/2012 13:40

Well done, that's fab. You should be proud of yourself & definitely deserve to brag Grin

MissMogwi · 17/08/2012 14:02

Well done! Show off, go on, you've earned it.

You must be so proud and excited for the future. If I do half as well when I graduate next year, I'll be on here demanding praise!

Well done to you indeed. I hope I can do as well with my studies (starting in October ).

Ooh, well done you! That is fantastic! I've just applied to return to studying and am getting the collywobbles but you have inspired me.

Good luck with your PGCE; it's hard work but worth it!
