What do they do? Are they good? Dd is six and aware of their presence and will probably want some and I've seen them everywhere but as yet don't really know what they're all about, apart from being big eyed and appealing to small children! Are they a girl thing or boys and girls?

They are originally an online game although they have branched out in recent years into stuffed animals etc.

Both DSs had Moshi Monsters accounts and dd (6.5) has one.

They are a virtual world of little monsters on the Internet. Boys and girls seem to love it. You basically sign up, your monster has a house with one room to start with. Each day you play games, the daily challenge, It's a mini quiz with sort of educational questions, maths etc. Your monster then earns rox( money) to spend on items for their room and food. The monster moves up levels when looked after well. The best part really which my dd3 loves is you have a garden and can buy seeds to plant. When seeds grow into flowers, if the right combination they attract moshlings. Moshlings are cute little pets which you then collect in your moshling zoo. That bit is the real draw for kids, the collecting part! Now there are spin off toys, games, stickers and trading cards. The membership is free to a point and then you can opt to pay monthly for extra fun. Dd3 and I have been playing since 2009, I am amazed how popular it is now! Oh the monsters also have notice boards and you can send your friends messages, I find moshi monsters very safe, lots of fun and my dd loves it. I do limit playing time as I think like anything computer related it is fun in small doses, balanced with lots of outdoor play and book reading! You could skip playing on the computer if it's not something you want your dd to do as they can collect the moshlings as little toys instead. The panini sticker book has been a hit with dd. I think all the merchandise gets expensive so I limit that too. They are nice little toys though, dd and her cousins play for ages together with all their moshi bits, I think it's a bit like the Pokemon phenomenon actually aimed at 5+. Hope all that was useful!
