Ds won't pee in public toilets

Ds (3) will happily pee in toilet at home or at the homes of my family. However he absolutely refuses to use any public toilets whatsoever, even nice ones in cafes etc. Sometimes he actually refuses to go in them at all, even when I need to go! I end up having to take him outside to pee in a secluded corner (if in countryside) or in the potty in the car.

Any ideas how I can convince him that peeing in public toilets is ok??

Does he say why he won't use them?

I've seen portable toddler loo seats around. Maybe if you use one at home and then take it out with you it will be familiar and encourage him?

Will he pee in a clean nappy (not that he would wear it, just pee in it IYSWIM)? A friend did this with her daughter, she carried a nappy in her bag, as her DD hated using public toilets. She would just hold the nappy, not put it on.

Boys are easy.
We just take a bottle with us and use that.
Empty and rinse when convenient.
Small milk bottles are good as they have a handle and a wide neck.

Can your DS say why he feels like this? My DS won't go in loos that smell bad, so tends to come in with me rather than DH as the ladies usually smell a bit better.

How is he in small restaurants etc where there's only the one loo, with a sink in the corner, so it's more like a home toilet and less like a large communal public loo?

We have a travel potty for DS, which converts into a travel loo seat, so I'd be tempted to use one of those. Your DS could get used to sitting ob it, then use it as a loo seat in public loos and you have it as a potty with you as a back up if you need it.

my ds4 is like this! and i have yet to get him to do it! we have tried everything! he has an amazing ability to hold it in all day if we are out!

Ds doesn't like using the toilets because he's scared of the noise the hand dryers make.

He's even wary of using the toilet in people's houses.

My DD (nearly 5) is still very wary of public loos. She doesn't like the smell, or if they are a bit dirty and is still terrified of hand dryers. We have a pottete potty/seat. Shes uses the seat on a loo but still sometimes uses the potty..especially on trains. I keep kitchen roll in my bag to use instead of hand dryers.
