Is your house tidy?

When you have little kids? is your house a mess or is it tidy? i like a clean house but admit it is untidy with toys and the like and i have to say i NEVER get on top of my ever growing laundry! - this is an ongoing 'heated' discussion between me and dp, i think when you have small children (mine are 5.5, 3, and just 6 months) your house is normal if its untidy and has lots of laundry, but dp thinks our home should be just short of 'showhome' all the time! I think thats never going to happen!!

no dh is chilled about it generally

I still find it annoying though

I like to leave stuff out, then I remember to do things with it. When he tidies it away I forget it ever existed.

Dh never ever puts anything away .. he takes something from one place to put it away somewhere else!! grr .. he never looks for anythigng either .. always asks me! grrrr
Painted the living and dining room walls recently .. dd2 has made big scribbles in both rooms already!!
dd2 is not good at tidying up (too small) but dd1 is good about it (takes after me then!) but i do find the house is much cleaner and tidier when dh is away on business :) hmmmm

ja9 · 10/03/2006 18:39

i really try... but not successful.

laundry is always ongoing, but i try to keep it hidden away tidily at all times, i.e. in ironing basket in cupboard or laundry basket.

desperateSCOUSEwife · 10/03/2006 18:41

yes, most of the time

niceglasses · 10/03/2006 18:42

Are you 'avin a larff?

I give up with mine I really do......I wonder if I am very lazy tho as others manage it. I think my 3 under 6 is wearing a bit thin........

Carmenere · 10/03/2006 18:47

My house is a complete tip but I admit it and am resigned to it. I try to do a big clean once a week but the rest of the time it's really untidy. It's far too small for our needs and dp and dss and dd are all very untidy. So I have decided that instead of fighting the mess and the other members of the household, I'm just not going to stress over the small stuff. We are moving into a bigger place soon and that will be different as I'm not moving the mess with us and there will be a place for everything and everything in it's place!

LadyTophamHatt · 10/03/2006 19:01

PMSL...Enid...I do exactly the same.
Things disappear(ie, Dh tidies them)and any trace of them is erased from my head.

My memory is 1000 times worse than a sieve.

WickedViperWitch · 10/03/2006 19:05

Actually, ours is ok atm. I had a massive frenzy a week ago BUT I am at home with NO CHILDREN so it is easy peasy. Laundry is usually a mare but I am on top of it atm, toys are all put away, kitchen is ok and Ovenu came and did my oven today. But we are usually fairly untidy and not clean because I am a/lazy and b/a slattern.

lacrimosa · 10/03/2006 19:08

not yet but Im spending the day out on sunday so I have till then to sort it out!Wink

Mog · 10/03/2006 19:20

Haven't read all the thread but I have children of 4, 3.5 and 1.5. My house is a constant tip and that is with me working all day to keep on top of things. This weekend dh has taken our two boys away for the weekend and this morning my house was tidy after 4 hours work and it will stay that way until they return.
My point is that it is neigh on impossible to keep a house tidy with three little people around and that it has nothing to do with housekeeping skills. It is just IMPOSSIBLE to keep on top of it all.

Kliciousmomma · 10/03/2006 19:25

My home is never completely tidy (I do try!!) unless I'm having visitors and then it's just the downstairs I've got a 2 and 4 yr old and I have neva been a tidy person but when I have to pull out all the stops I will.. my DH helps when he's off and doesn't expect a showhome (thank god!!)but he bloody moans about the dishes when we made a pact ( before marriage I might add) that he would do the dishes and I would do the cooking!! and now he acts like he doesn't eat or drink apparently the dishes appear or are made by me and the kids aloneGrin
I lived with a very anal mother for years so I am very relaxed when it comes to tidiness, probably will turn into her eventually!!Wink

Mercy · 10/03/2006 19:27

Absolutely not.

May we borrow your husband(s)?

Please, just for a week?

nutcracker · 10/03/2006 19:31

Definatly not.

At the moment my living room is a complete tip, we have a broom on the floor, various bits of toys, bits of paper, and pj's.

I need Anthea.

Oh and as for laundry, it's everywhere.

charliecat · 10/03/2006 19:33

No...yesterdays clutter all over the place. Cant be arsed is my motto. It always comes back.

Earlybird · 10/03/2006 19:38

The flat has been a tip all week, but today it's tidy. The cleaner came earlier....Grin

Elibean · 10/03/2006 19:49

Not very, though I do try - always feels like a huge effort. I tidy it properly (by my standards) about once a week, and skim the surface the rest of the time. The kitchen, dd's room and bathroom get tidied to some extent every day, but our bedroom....Shock
Thankfully, dh (keen cook) only cares about the kitchen part.
I have an obsessively tidy mother, and rebelled...thats my excuse, anyway...

hovely · 10/03/2006 20:48

no, it is like a slapstick film, as I am up one end picking things up DD and DS are down the other chucking stuff about or DH is leaving a trail of envelopes and CDs about.
we have a separate child-free sitting room but although it is tidy it has spare bikes and pushchairs in it so it looks rubbish.
i cannot get out of the habit of leaving things out in a 'pile' (many, many piles)if they need soemthing doing to them, instead of adding it to one of my endless lists and putting the stuff away.
also we just have too much stuff.

Mog · 10/03/2006 20:54

reminds me of tidying one end of my kitchen as ds was pulling out pots and pans at the other end. Stricks me as a kind of Japanese torture programme.

pebblemum · 10/03/2006 21:43

I have two children the youngest of who is a little terrorist (as my Dh calls him)

Is my house tidy, what do you think?

I do try to tidy up though, honest, but after hoovering three times during the day I tend to get to the point where i think 'what the f*!' and leave it and come on here to chat instead Grin

mcmum · 10/03/2006 21:45

yes but only coz my mum felt sorry for me as dd and myself are poorly ! Smile

mrsgee · 10/03/2006 21:47

i am constantly trying to keep a tidy house but run myself ragged trying to do this so i guess i have to reside myself to the fact that things will never be the same as before i had children

Tortington · 10/03/2006 22:07

no and if those who know me dont like it then they dont have to come round.

moondog · 10/03/2006 22:16

Very tidy..worryingly so.
I couldn't sleep if I thought I would face a mess in the morning.
Dh abroad, but probably worse than me Have just phoned and asked what he will be doing tomorrow.
He said 'Housework, ironing, then listening to the rugby.'
