Presents for 1st birthday

Can anyone help me get some presents for dd's cousins? They are both 1 in September and having a joint party (not twins, both kids of dp's cousins). I'd like to get them something (obviously) but money is tight so I'd like to keep it under £10 each, and closer to £5 if possible.

So, do I get them the same thing or something different? They're both boys and I don't know them well (but dd sees them a lot when dmil is looking after her). I would ideally like to get them something the same but different types (like a toy that comes in different animal shapes or something). Books is my back up plan, but I don't know what they already have.

Any ideas?

If you're close to IKEA then they do a great range of toys for babies and toddlers. Best present we got for our 1yo DS was a set of soft fruit and vegetables from IKEA. Here and here.

Thank you, that's a great idea and we have an Ikea.

Recommend a tunnel or a play tent. Both are about a tenner. I bought one for my DN's 1st birthday and he loved it.

I bought my own 1 year old DD a wooden toddler swing for £7 online. Also was very well received.

But the best thing she has is a playhouse I made her out of big bits of flat cardboard (IKEA packaging). I laced the corners up with coloured ribbon. It was free and definitely the thing she plays with the most.
