Are "cherry" shaped dummies really bad for teeth?

DD is ff (10days old) and very sucky, so has been sick a couple of s as she has taken too much milk when really she just wants to suck (we are demand feeding).

I want to try a dummy, and tried a mam one we got with our bottles, but she seems to struggle with it. My ds always had mam ones. When she keeps it in she seems to like it.

I have started bought some cherry ones, but are they really bad for teeth?

I would imagine all dummies are bad for teeth after a certain age.

At 10 days old if it keeps her happy and makes your life that little bit easier I can't see it being a problem.

If your 2 year old constantly has a dummy in their mouth, it is bad for their teeth.

If your 6 month old constantly has a dummy in their mouth, it doesn't matter.

DS only like the cherry style. He had it as much as he wanted for the first 6-8 months, then bedtimes only, then got rid of it by a year. He has lovely teeth Grin

DD1 had cherry teats, but they only started to be a problem when she tucked them between her cheek and her teeth. We got rid soon after. FWIW a newborn will struggle to keep any shaped dummy in. They soon get used to it though!

Hmm, that she still appears to have a disgusted look on her face. But if I feed her too much she is sick.

Maybe I just need to persevere.

DD would only take cherry shaped ones when she was very small. Once she was older she would take anything as long as it was vaguely dummy shaped.
She is still a terrible dummy addict at 2 and would have it in all day if i didn't insist otherwise.

my first baby only liked the cherry ones! so that's what he had.

I didn't tell the dentist that he had one until he gave it up at about 3.5 yrs. she said she couldn't tell at all (and she is big on not using dummies, and preventative dentistry)

My eldest two had cherry dummies, but only when they were going to sleep, in their cots and never at any other time as I hate dummies intensely.

Their teeth are absolutely fine.

My other two had thumbs. One only kicked the habit at thirteen and only cos the dentist told him he would be getting a brace if he didn't.
