A positive thread about 2 year olds....

I feel that I've written loads recently about how hard it is with a 2 year old, and being pregnant, so to reverse the balance, I would like to post three nice things that my DS did today.

  1. Swam underneath the barrier at the pool as we had to go into another lane, even though he really didn't want to. Was proud of himself afterwards and kept saying "DS went under, mummy went under".
  1. Waited his turn really patiently and nicely while a tiny boy climbed the slide steps really slowly, and even engaged him in a short game of "peek a boo" behind the slide side.
  1. Said "Hello" to the cashier in the supermarket, told her his name (in response to her question) and then remarked "nice sunny day". (previously he has just said "no" when strangers have tried to engage him in chat.)

Why can't every day be like today!?!

  1. My two year old now calls the round things that play music or stories an "ABCD"
  1. Yesterday she complained about her eye being "wet" and was genuinely surprised to learn it was because of the tears from her tantrum
  1. Out of nowhere she said "I love you mummy" for the first time (rather than repeating back to me)

Three things that make me a but wistful that she won't be two forever

I won't give details from yesterday morning. :( Yesterday afternoon however...
DD chatted nicely with the woman in the shop, said her name clearly for the first time and told her that we were buying flour to make scones. The woman jokingly asked DD to bring one back for her. We got home, made scones with no throwing flour, trying to lick anything, or getting stroppy. After they were cooked, DD reminded me we had to "Take Con for Lady" So she carried it all the way back to the shop, and didn't try to eat it once! She was very pleased with herself. Grin

DS was so pleased to see his cousin yesterday that he actually fell over with excitement. He has also recently learnt 'the wheels on the bus' so everywhere he went yesterday we kept hearing 'round and round. All day'.

Despite its challenges, I am really enjoying this age Smile

DD - You're lovely.
Me - You're lovely, DD.
DD - No, I mean you're lovely.
Me - Thank you, that's really nice of you.
DD - You're welcome. It's not really nice, it's just how it is. Just wanted to say it.

And off she trotted, leaving me decidedly dewy-eyed.
