Hi all,

I'm off on holiday in a couple of weeks and was going to buy the above for my 2.5 yr old dd, has anyone tried these?? My husband is not keen on the idea at all as he thinks if she falls on her belly she will not be able to get onto her back as the float his on the back only and not the front too (sorry if this confuses you, it did me when he starting moaning about it lol) can this actually happen??

Any advice would be great thanks.

you may be better with arm bands and/or an inflatable ring if it is just to keep her upright in the water rather than to teach her to swim.

arm bands
ring

You might want to look at a swimfin

I've not used one but have seen children use them at the local pool and they look quite confident, I think they're supposed to keep them at the right position in the water

Not a swimfin for a 2.5 yr old - they only add a bit of flotation to a nearly swimmer. I'd go for a float suit

We have a float suit like this for DS. Rather than it having inflatable panels, it has polystyrene floats and you can take oout individual floats as little one becomes more confident in the water. Ours have 2 ploystyrene floats per vertical panel.

I would avoid the float jackets as they float up around the child's neck as soon as they dive into the water, and I agree CMOTDibbler about the Swim Fin - they're actually really big, certainly too big for a 2 year old.

Have used back floats for my 2.5 year old twin girls and would not recommend them at all. Both of my girls while on their bellies could not lift/keep their faces out of the water - quite scary for them and us. I find the inflatable rings or arm bands best.
