Washing reusables. Advice needed!

I have been given a bag of reusable nappies for DS (3 months) and I don't know how to wash them.

  1. Do you have to soak both wet and dirty nappies before washing? If so, what in?
  2. Can you wash wet and dirty nappies in with other washing?
  3. At what temperature do you wash wet and dirty nappies?
  4. If you wash dirty nappies separately, can you leave them for a few days before washing to have enough (DS only does one poo per day)?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

  1. Bambino mio make a nappy soak and every month or so (more or so recently ^^) we soak ours in that for a couple of hours, but definitely not every time we use them

2)No! We did this once and I do not recommend this!

3)30 degrees for both. Gets ours nice and clean and apparently they last longer than if they are washed at higher temperatures

4)I dont wash them separately but generally try to have them washed within a day/24hrs

We were also given ours but love reuseables now and would never swap

If DC weaned scrape off as much poo as poss (or use liner)

put into open mesh bag in dry lidded bucket

when bucket full lift out mesh bag and put open into machine

use minimal powder wash 40degs with prewash and extra rinsing (I use Tots Bots Potion which is antibacterial)

i don't wash nappies with clothes as a) when bucket is full thats quite a lot of nappies and they need space to move in machine and b) mine have velcro tabs that would snag my clothes

I wash wet and dirty nappies together, wash max of every two days.

I run them on a rinse cycle first, as otherwise you're basically washing in wee! Then I do a normal 40 degree wash with half normal amount of non bio powder. I've found this system works very well, no soaking required. Definitely flush solids down toilet though!

1 - I don't soak, just but both wet and dirty nappies straight into a lidded bucket with mesh bag liner

2 - if there's just wet nappies, I sometimes stick other things in too, but not with dirty nappies.

3- 40 degrees, with Fairy non-bio gel and Bambino Mio sanitiser powder.

4 - I wash everything in the bucket together. LO only does a poo every couple of days. Once the bucket is full, I just lift out the mesh bag and put it straight into the machine.
