UV sunsuits - same as allinone swimsuits? Or worth the money?

Just wondering, as some swimsuits fabrics may still be UV protective anyway, is it really worth shelling out £10-20 each (I need two) secondhand or brand new prices?

I know you're laughing and thinking, sun? Where? But apparently the temps are high 20s again end of this week so am thinking of a beach daytrip.

Also, if your child wears UV suits on the beach, are they comfortable in them or are the suits hot and sweaty and chafing?

I got some 2nd hand from ebay last year - and they have done the kids for thier holiday this year too. Figured most kids would only wear them a week or two abroad on holiday - they were in fab condition.

I like them - saves you messing about with tons of suncream, which the little ones dont't like much.

I'd not bother if it was for a day trip - my middle child wasn't a big fan and ended up in swim shorts and t-shirts in the pool.

We have always used them and they like them. Sainsburys have them half price at the moment.

Primark have Factor 50 suits for £8. I hads them for my twins on holiday and they were fab!

Boots had some last weekend down to £7. They were tops and shorts rather than all in one. Sainsburys had some all In ones half price too. Also uv hats for £1.50.

I've never used sunsuits and dd and ds are age 8 and 5 and have never burned

LittleCatZ · 10/08/2012 23:26

You don't need to spend more than £10 if you shop around - like clement I suggest Sainsbury's - IME it's worth going up a size as they tend to be tight and worth considering the top and bottom rather than all-in-one if your babes are either in nappies or recently potty trained as avoids a lot of faff.

We do use them cos dh paranoid about sun exposure but if you are talking uk you might consider a wet suit. We were given one for ds and it massively increased the time he could stay in the pool/beach. After trying ds's dd2 begged for one too. We now have them for all the dc. They were 10 quid from Tescos. Only ds wears it in swimming pool, but the girls are older (5+7). Are protective against sun too. None of mine complain about the sun suits or wet suits, they do wear swimsuits for their swim lessons.

Oh and sunsuits should only be used for 2 yrs as the material degrades (don't tell dh that); but do be careful buying secondhand if you don't know the source/ not in great condition. Wetsuits last longer if washed out properly.
