Parenting with a bad back

Hello,
I have a 15 month old DD, who has just started to walk. She likes it when I hold her hand to walk but it makes my back worse. When she goes somewhere I don't want her to go, I find it difficult knowing what to do without picking her up. She doesn't like going in her pushchair, and I'm finding it a bit of a struggle getting her in it when she's arching her back. I'm slightly worried that as she gets older she'll be able to take advantage of the fact that I don't have the strength to pick her up etc.

Has any one got any tips on how to make life easier with a young child and a bad back?

I have an on and off back problem - my dd is 9 mths and just starting to walk so I can see i may have your issues soon! Here a few of my tips that i have been using to help me out:

Have you tried the Hippychick carrying belt? Bit like a back brace but has a 'seat' on the hip for you to wedge your child on when carrying.

I use a maxi cosi axiss car seat as it swivels towards you and don't have to wrestle trying to twist and bend to get them into forward facing.

I got a long handled dustpan and brush from the pound shop - the kind where the handle is vertical.

If you go to ikea buy a few of thier long handled shoe horns (69p in the wardrobe dept) the hook on the end is fantastic for hooking things up off the floor or reaching things.

Hope they help :)

Thanks for your reply secret - I haven't tried the hippychick, I don't want to carry her full stop! I'll look into the car seat - sounds like magic.

I used reigns. That way you don't have to bend down whilst they're walking. I hugged whilst on the ground with her. But she learnt from a young age, I couldn't carry her. When she's 18 months old she'll be able to climb into the buggy if she wants a rest I should think.

I have used the swivel car seat, it was great. My sil lent it to me and she has very bad back problems - she swore by it, also reins. My 18 month old now climbs into the buggy herself. As a disclaimer my back isn't very bad but my physio thought I might have problems (I had a bad car accident between dd2 and dd3 if that makes sense)
