Nearly 1 year old, can't seem to get naptime right....

Dd2 is 1 in a couple of weeks and we still have no daytime routine with regards to napping. She is up most days at 6.30am. Before the school hol's she would have breakfast, dressed etc and we would take dd1 to school, get home and have a sleep 9.15 - 11am ish, then play, lunch and then a shorter afternoon sleep, leave house at 2.55pm to get dd1, home, play, tea bath and in bed for 7pm.

She now doesn't seem ready for a sleep until 10.30/11am and then sleeps over lunch, all meals seem out of sync and she is shattered by teatime as she has only had 1 sleep.

Am I doing it all wrong, dd1 was a great napper but we didn't have a school pickup to fit it around then. Is it around 1 when they usually drop to one sleep? Do you think I should just go with it and hope she can soon get to after lunch for a nap?

Sorry for rambling just finding it hard at moment as she is so ratty at teatime so not eating well and spoiling mealtimes for dd1.

Could you wake her after 45 mins of her first nap, then put her back dwn at 2.30 for an hour?

MrsRogerSterling · 03/08/2012 21:59

I could, but that would only work through the holidays as we have to leave at 2.55 at the latest once dd1 is back at school. Also I am always reluctant to wake her once she is asleep as she looks so peaceful. To soft for my own good!

I think Dd was about the same age when she dropped down to one nap a day.

How about brunch and late lunch either side?

I wouldn't stress about it personally (i did stress about it a lot and had to stop myself, much better to just leave them to it imo)

Give her the opportunity to sleep and if she doesn't take it then fine. Earlier bedtime if she's tired.

Hope that's helpful!

I reckon she'll soon be able to stretch the one sleep and be fine on that - I think my DS did this at about 1, although he chopped and changed for a few weeks, depending on what we'd done in the day.

I would probably try doing up and breakfast at 6.30/7, snack at 9, then lunch at 11, sleep at 11.30/12 until say (ideally!) 2/2.30, then go and get your DD1, dd2 has a snack at 3, then in bed by 7/7.30.

Do you walk to collect dd1. If so could you put her for her nap in her pushchair. That's what we did with ds3 so we could just go even if he was still asleep. He could wake at his leisure.
