One present or two

Hallo

the mother of a child in my son's nursery group is celebrating his 2nd birthday jointly with his older sister's 4th (also at the nursery). I have been given a joint invitation with both children on it.

I've never met the mother, so it's very kind to be invited.

Would I be expected to bring a present for both children, or is it quite reasonable just to take one for the child that my son knows?

Ta!

If you have been invited by both children then by them both a gift.

Doesn't have to be much but can you imagine their poor little face if they both come to greet you and you have one present :(

Both. But you could probably get away with a bigger/more expensive present for the actual friend.

Really? I genuinely would have thought one for my son's friend would have been the done thing (well, I was hoping so as I'm pretty skint!). Good job I asked!

Yes, really. Sorry Smile

I wouldn't buy the sister a present if it was me, if your son doesn't know her (or spend any real time with her each day at nursery) then why should you buy her a present. When we've been to joint parties there has usually been 2 piles of presents and it hasn't been expected that you have to bring a pressy for each child.

We've got the same thing next week, going to a party of sisters, 1 of which is in ds's class, but I aren't buying her little sister a present I'm a bit tight

One. Card for sister.

What about a wrapped bar of chocolate as a token gift and a nice present for the child your son is friends with?

I would get a small gift for the sister.

The pound shop has little toy sets, for £1, that would suffice - in fact you may well get presents for both of them there - I buy a lot of stocking filler gifts there like toy cars, pretend jewelry, games etc.
