How often do you change a newborn in cloth?

Dd2 is a week old, and I've just put her in cloth nappies for the first time today (Bimbles). I didn't start using cloth with dd1 until she was 10 weeks, so don't have experience of using them this young. Obviously I'm changing her after a poo, but how often do people change for wees? I can't imagine she's doing a lot of wee at the moment. Many thanks.

Watching with interest as I'm still cooking mine but have teenyfits to use from birth! Clueless on the actual practicalities!!

I would check frequently and only really change for poos. Mine did about 12 poos a day. I guess it depends how you are feeding her as I think FF babies poo less frequently? I used to check on waking, after a feed, before going down for a sleep, and if I smelt something dodgy. Congratulations on your baby and nappies. I will be interested to hear how you get on as I have never used bimbles, and am due in October.

Well I'm an old biddy, so they didn't have fancy ready-made cloth nappies in my day, but I did use the folded nappies. When mine were as tiny as that, I would reckon on getting through around nine or ten a day, so probably averaged out about every two and a half/three hours or so.

Thanks all, that's helpful. I'm breastfeeding, so she's pooing pretty frequently really, but every 2-3 hrs is helpful, thank you. Valium, I'm pleased with the Bimbles so far, I like the fact that they're fully fleece lined, so nice & soft against her little bottom! We're using xs Motherwase wraps, which are still too big around her little legs, but the nappies fit closely around the legs, so no chance of a leak. I don't think there'll be very absorbent as she gets bigger, but there is scope to put something in the pocket to boost them. In any case, they won't fit for very long, after which she'll go into the Bumgenius I had for dd (size small AIO and one size).
