Ok girls, this might look like a question from a troll but i am real and just confused.

British is not my mother tongue so my two boys are bilingual. The eldest is four years od and he has started asking why boys and girls anatomy is different etc....
I do not want to make mistakes so which terms should i use to describe penises etc? They all sound quite strong names for a 4 and 2 year old.

Can you help me with this doubt?
Thanks!

Willy for a boy's bits. There are no nice names for a girl's bits - most families makes their own up but none ever seem to catch on.

sea74 · 27/07/2012 14:38

Yeah, willies ok but i dont know any for girls.

Technical term is vulva but it always sounds very clinical. There's always just "genitals", I suppose. Or, particularly given you have boys and their interest in girls' anatomy is largely academic at this stage, you could just use whatever the term is in your first language.

We use willy for a boy and fanny for a girl, although I know that some people feel that "fanny" is ruder than I do. Is your older son at nursery? If so, it might be worth asking them what terms they use as he will have heard them there, when nappies are changed or going to the toilet. It would be less confusing for him to use words he already knows.

Any other ideas?

Willy or dingle for boys bits, twinkle or fairy for girls. A bit twee but does the job! Grin

ZuleikaD · 30/07/2012 06:22

We use winkie and foof. I hate twinkle! Apart from anything else it must make Twinkle Twinkle Little Star confusing...

tallslutnopanties · 30/07/2012 06:28

We use willy and 'front bottom'. That's what my parents used when we were little. Even though it's a bit twee I find it infinitely preferable than other options!

MammaTonic · 30/07/2012 14:17

'Winkie', 'winkle' as term for both boys and girls.

'Tuppence', 'fairy' for a vagina.

'Willy', 'Dinkle' for a penis

When we need to discuss it, it's because of urine infections, so I say, do you have stinging wee? depending on the answer can work out the problem. Did explain to my son aged 7 that ladies have 3 holes, the middle one for the baby to get out, as he imagined worse!!

ZuleikaD · 30/07/2012 15:21

So wyorksmum how do your children refer to their bits? I mean, most children talk about them as easily as they talk about their knees or their noses. What terms do they use?

wfhmumoftwo · 30/07/2012 16:12

My DS (5) and DD (4) refer to their 'bits' as willie and front bottom. Neither are words that we particularly 'decided' rather they just started using those names so it kind of caught on!

Both know that they have bottoms for pooing at the back and that boys have a willie and girls have a 'front bottom' for weeing

We have not yet discussed in detail the bit about babies coming out (I had 2 c-sections so both my children think that all babies are taken out of your tummy by the doctor! - we will explain further when they are a little older or when questions arise Smile)

Shybairns · 30/07/2012 16:23

Willy for boys and for my daughter its just her bottom. We don't say she has anything. Boys have a willy girls don't and that's it. Though I have taken the explination a step further and explained why boys have a willy and girls have a special hole. My DCs are 5 and 3.

amybelle1990 · 30/07/2012 17:05

'Willy' for boys and 'foo' or 'flower' for girls

ButtonBoo · 30/07/2012 20:18

Willy and tiddle
