Not sure I am a good Mum

Does anyone else ever feel like they are not a very good Mum?

I dont really feel like I am coping very well Sad

It seems like everyone else knows what they are doing and doesnt get stressed. I lose my temper and get stressed a lot.

I had been quite confident but now I feel that I am insecure. I love my dh but I am not sure I could really tell him I feel like this.

Not sure what I am asking! I suppose just if anyone else feels down and that they are failing a bit?

Oh god yes, all the time. It's what drew me to MN in the first place. I think, if they are honest, most parents feel like this sometimes?

Tee2072 · 21/07/2012 22:13

Everyone feels like that sometimes.

How old is your child/children?

Sirzy · 21/07/2012 22:14

I think its perfectly normal to have times when you feel like that.

But in truth if you do everything you can to care for and love your children then you are a good mum.

Yes fenace felt this often, though less so now I have my second. It is a tough job, one that you never switch off from. I try not to compare myself with others, though this is difficult, the thing is their style of parenting may not suit your DC(s). I felt really insecure with one as my DD always seemed go cling, never play at parties and is rather moody, my second one is the opposite, mixes well, plays with anyone and eats much better that DD1. I do not think I did much different, I think that in part the way they behave is down to how they are. Hope that this helps a little.

I only have one good friend who also has kids and she is quite competative so I suppose that doesnt help

I have a 3yo dd and 18 mos dd. Dd is a daddy's girl which hurts my feelings sometimes (feel v pathetic admitting that!)

It took me ages to work out that other mums sometimes lie about their family life. Before then I used to feel really inadequate....

PuddingCup · 21/07/2012 22:27

(That should read 18mos ds)

I am pretty certain people must lie about how their children sleep (surely mine cant be the only ones that dont sleep well)

Often at home I think I would prefer to be at work (then if I do overtime I feel a bit guilty!)

Sorry for whinging, I just felt I wanted to talk about this to someone

Ds is 2.8 and I can count on one hand the number of times he has slept through.

Thanks everyone for your replies Smile

I do feel better having posted about feeling like this. I am sure I am not the ony person who loses their temper or who basically feels like they are winging it all a bit.

Oh yes. I start the day being wonderful mummy. By 3pm I am knackered and my sense of humour is AWOL.
