Hello ! Can you help my 12mo into reusables?

I may have left it a bit late, but now that my almost 1 year old dd is only having 3/4 nappy changes a day and has 'lovely' solid poos I thought I'd be very happy to change over to reusables until she's potty trained.

Could you help me find the right sort? She's about 8kg now, in size 4/5 disposables so not sure what size we would need.

Me and DH are both dyspraxic, so would prefer ones that we don't have to do any fancy folds or pinning (so not terries) I like the look of nappies like bum genius but can you please explain to me all the components I would need? I'd like to be able to flush away poos - so disposable liners ideally.

Another concern is that dd hates to lie down for changes, so we have been using pull ups - are there equivalents in the resusable world?

Another concern for me is that dd has eczema, so I was a bit concerned that washing the resuables might irritate her bum, has anyone any experience of this?

Thank you very much :) I know our local nct loan out nappies, and was hoping to buy some second hand on ebay, or chepy trial ones.

Both my DDs have difficult eczema. I didn't use cloth with my first but have been u

Whoops! Sorry! But I have been using it with DD2, and not only is her dreadfully sensitive bum only settles when in cloth, but her leg eczema is miles better. We used disposables while on holiday recently and it went right back to where she'd been, transforming again within 24 hours of beig back in cloth at home.

Also, from the eczema point of view, all you need to wash the nappies in is your usual detergent (no fabric softener etc) and you should only use a very small amount so there shouldn't be an issue with that for your LO's bum, assuming there haven't been problems with the detergent you're using for clothes.

Thanks for that - we've been using persil non-bio which is the best we've found so far (was really upset that she didn't get on with the lovely ecover stuff we bought!), I just wondered what with her private parts being a bit more delicate if it's more of an issue.

I've just sent a questionaire off to thenappylady to see what she can reccomend to me.

So can i ask what brand you use?

Whats most important to you? Go for 2 parters for the best containment and minimum leaks, pocket nappies for ease of use.

I use Wonderoos v2 currently for DD2, and used Bumgenius and Wonderoo v1 for DD1 (all pocket nappies). All are good, but my fav is Wonderoo v2. I have also used Tots Bots Bamboozles (2 parters), and highly recommend them but with the caveat that they dry slow!

We've not been at it that long, and I got a whole pile of single nappies of different types/brands (many preloved) to see what worked for us. I'm now building up numbers of the ones that work well. I like bamboo 2 parters for night - the added benefit of these for an eczematous baby is that it's a natural fibre and has antibacterial properties. As said above, they do dry really slowly, though, and I reserve them for night time. I quite like a variety of daytime ones, meaning that I have a few reliably quick drying ones which means I'm never in a spot. My favoured day time ones are Real Easy, Little Lamb microfibres, and Rumparooz. And Itti Bitti D'lish, particularly for out and about as they're so small and easy to fit in my bag.

Wow thanks - a lot of recommendations there! Think i'll try getting lots of singles from ebay to try some out. like the sound of bamboo ones, soft soft soft.

both my DDs have eczema, we're in close parent pop-in bamboo and it's much better :)

I've recently started using cloth nappies on my 1yo and can hugely recommend both the advice from the nappy lady, and also the 'try cloth for £10' from Fill Your Pants - they send you 6 different types of nappies to try for 3 weeks, it really helps to get to grips with how the different types work and how quickly they dry. I've gone with MioSolos (from the trial) and Bumbles (as recommended by nappy lady) and love them! Good luck and hope your LO's eczema improves, I had it terribly as a baby but got let's better over time.
