He is 3. Just about.

His trousers are almost permanently below his bum.

I've tried every kind of waist line I can think of. No matter how tightly they are fastened, they slip down. It's getting embarrassing, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Is a belt the way forwards? If so, any recommendations? I haven't found one which looks suitable yet.

Please help Confused

I find vests help (the ones with poppers) as trousers down slide less easily over them. Bit of a pain re potty training though.

sittinginthesun · 19/07/2012 21:48

My eldest was the same. I kept him in dungarees for as long as possible, but between the ages of 3 until around 6 years, he always ended up with trousers hanging down.

I tried adjustable waists, belts, braces... Nothing worked. He simply had no waist.

(he's 8 now, and is fine Wink)

ds has to have elasticated waists - ASDA always have good ones.

MrsPear · 19/07/2012 21:52

Have you tried trousers with an adjustable waist? There are little buttons inside which are attached to elastic which you pull tight, it leaves a little gathered back but at least they stay up! Try Jo Jo or vertbaudet

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 19/07/2012 21:54

M+S belts similar to this worked well with ds1 who was just the same.

Poppered vests and dungarees just aren't convenient once they're out of nappies ime.

Zipitydooda · 19/07/2012 22:05

Braces? www.holdthemup.co.uk/

luckysocks · 19/07/2012 22:09

Yep, he's toilet trained, so poppered vests no longer any good... I've been looking for suitable dungarees but they don't seem to exist.

Today he was wearing his gap trousers with an adjustable elasticated waist... they just slip down.

I was looking at those M&S belts the other day, but as they're not adjustable and size 2-4, I have a feeling they'd just slide down with his trousers??

I've wondered about braces too... you see, they would work but I assume he then couldn't go for a wee without help.

It's a puzzle!

Thanks for the links :)

Our m+s belts are adjustable, sorry I hadn't spotted that those aren't.

IHeartKingThistle · 19/07/2012 22:20

DS' snake belt is the only thing that keeps him decent! My mum got it though, no idea where from!

lindsell · 19/07/2012 22:21

I've found that vertbaudet trousers with an adjustable waist are the only ones that stay up on my 3 yo, he can't get on with belts and the elasticated waist trousers always seem too big to start with so the stretch is pointless

maybejusttheone · 20/07/2012 08:22

My DS is 21 months but is still wearing some 12-18m trousers that need a belt. Some of his 18-24m trousers only fit if I roll the waistband over - this works well on tracksuit trousers. But it does make for a bulky waistline!

JarethTheGoblinKing · 20/07/2012 08:47

Sainsbury's tracksuit bottoms stay up (most of the time). Anything else just falls down my very skinny 4yo

Pernickety · 20/07/2012 08:50

My slim waisted DD had that probelm and I found trousers from Vertbaudet/La Redoute more slim fitting. H&M too (at least for girls) are slim fitting.

cupcake78 · 20/07/2012 08:51

Know the feeling, builders bum continually. I've bought proper pants for ds, shorts style, small pants just add to the problem. Belts just slip with the trousers.

The joys of a tall long bodied skinny boy (still scrumptious thoughWink).

JarethTheGoblinKing · 20/07/2012 09:20

Yes - boxers help.. tend to stay in place better than pants.

MagicDougal · 20/07/2012 09:44

When my Ds was born (12 years ago!!) they didn't really have trousers with adjustable waists apart from on obscure v expensive websites. I could kiss whoever at Next started doing them and now everyone does!

He had elasticated braces so when it came to potty training he could just slip them over his shoulders. Belts were too much of a problem. The only pair of jeans he could wear without assistance were a pair of dkny jeans (bought heavily discounted in the sale for £20). They were super skinny jeans (I'm assuming why they were in the sale because there probably weren't many children who could fit into them)but they fit him like a dream. I have also found trousers from Europe are generally made with narrower waists so possibly LaRedoute trousers may fit better (we got some fab jeans last year in Migros in Switzerland) .

MilkshakeMaker · 20/07/2012 20:24

My ds is 33 months...last week he was wearing 9-12 month shorts, ok granted they are meant to be mid calf and now just above the knee but his waist fits perfect! Trousers are a nightmare as what fits him in the leg is just ridiculous round his middle. If I use a belt it looks terrible as there is so much material gathered, plus it needs to be tightened every 5 mins.

I have found the ajustable waistband the best for him, but having difficulty finding them in shops and want to see them before purchasing.

I'm fed up with him looking like i'm dragging him up by the ears!

luckysocks · 22/07/2012 22:16

Milkshake maker - that's exactly how I feel! Other people have commented on it and I'm starting to feel embarrassed for him.

We have European trousers (also Swiss, funnily enough); trousers which are a year+ too small for him; thin trousers; expensive trousers (although admittedly not DKNY and I'm even tempted to try a pair)... everything falls down.

I guess we might just have to try braces.

snake belt- they are the business. Hard to find on the high street tho- try independent kids clothes shops.

IllegitimateGruffaloChild · 22/07/2012 23:47

We found these toddler belts were really good. They allow for toileting but keep the trousers in place.
