I know lots of people rate montesorri nurseries, but it strikes me that lots of it could be done at home, ans also that there's lots of things to do with under 2s (our local m. Nursery is 40 mins drive away and only starts from 2 years; dd is 1)

Have you tried a floor bed or other montesorri ideas?

My Mum is/was a Montessori teacher. She used a lot of the basic practical life exercises with DD1 at a similar age. They are extremely easy to do at home, as they are meant to mimic home life.

I have to say, despite being Montessori educated to age 8 myself and Mum running her own Montessori school, I've never heard of the idea of the floor bed. I'll have to look it up.

There's also this book which gives lots of practical ideas for using Montessori techniques at home

I kind of do and DS will be starting at a very purist Montessori pre-school in September.

I have 'Montessori Play and Learn' by Lesley Britton and 'I Can Do It' by Maja Pitamic which are both useful for practical ideas. I have also read 'The Secret of Childhood'.

I have to say, I have not gone the floor bed route though and plan to keep DS in his cot until he is 15. Grin I also let DS watch some cbeebies which I'm sure would have Maria turning in her grave!
