my ds is 20 months he has had a dummy since he was only a month or so as he had really bad colic as a baby ,
I try and only keep it for when he is sleeping and in emergencys such as injurys , hungry and no food acess , also he has it in the car just incase he fancies a nap.
we got into the routine of getting him to put it in his cot when he woke up and was happy to do this but the novelty seems to have warn off ...
and now he has learnt to ask for his "der der" its becoming a problem as he will throw a massive tantrum if he doesnt get it (yesterday the tantrum lasted almost 2 hours he was in floods of tears as if i had just killed his kitten or something ) .... and will just moan and grizzle and winge for hours which is not good for my mental health .

I wanted to have it gone by the time he was 6 months then it was a year and now it still hasnt happened !! I then thought it would be a better idea to wait until he can understand the 'dummy fairy story ' and replace it one night with a gift mayb at 3yrs but it seems to becoming an issue now and a constant battle to keep it to sleep times !

should i try to get rid of it now and HOW ON EARTH do i go about it ??????

My DD stopped using her dummy at age 21months. It was not easy. I told her that dummies are for babies and that she is a big girl and bought her a soft teddy bear. She slept late and cried alot for the dummy for a couple of weeks.
I think you should wean it off for sleep time only in the house and then when she is two get rid of it and buy her something that she will like.
