Airflow wraps leaking from at the sides?

We're using Tots Bots Fluffles (size 2) and ME Airflow wraps (LG) on my 9m ds.

A few times recently after naps, and today at the end of his lunch, he's been damp on his side, like his nappy has wicked on to his clothes.

My dh thinks it's because when he bends, the wrap bulges and gapes. But we used TB and TB pastels size 1 with ME medium wraps and never had this problem.

I don't really want to have to use Rikki wraps, as we found that the aplix would occasionally rub his tummy - but thinking we might have to.

Anyone else come across this problem?

only things i can think of are:

wrap isn't snug enough round legs

nappies haven't been washed enough (are they new?) and need to be more absorbant

not changing often enough

Could it be that the fluffle is somehow being squashed and causing the wetness to seep out of it i.e. if he's lying on his side asleep? I know with the fluffle I have I can't put a close fitting wrap like the tots one on top as this causes the nappy to wick on to the bindings and leak.

I've had this problem with dd lately too, not just with tots bots and Airflows but all other nappies and wraps we have too. I think it is a power wee that just doesn't get soaked up quick enough as the back of the nappy is still dry.

bev - i'm not sure if that's good news or bad news! chimes with what we had been thinking though - thanks :)

bagpuss - could well be down to being squashed - i know we have to be really careful that the binding of the wrap doesn't get too close to the nappy at the back or it wicks, especially overnight.

not sure why this is more of a problem with the fluffle than his old tots though - unless it's just that the volume of wee has increased :)

psychobabble - will try a looser leg setting - thanks.

starlover - nappies are two months old, and we change every 2-3 hours, so don't think it's that - nappies aren't sodden when we change (except first thing, obviously).

also, the wetness is at the side where the gap in the wrap is, rather than at leg level, so i don't think it's leaking from the leg opening.

Could it be that it's a boy thing.
I found that leaks were sometimes caused by DS's wee man being pointed to the side or up the way.
By tucking it down into the nappy helped us lots, not easy to do when they're wriggling about but it's worth a try.

Yeah, we had that a few times when he was smaller - discovered that the waist bit of pastel bots aren't that absorbent! Have been pretty vigilent on pointing it down ever since. Grin

I am using the Mother Ease washable nappies + Rikki Wraps (Large one for a 9.50KGS baby girl). We had few accident at night but we now put a booster pad + fleece and no more accident. Maybe because she is a girl or because the ME and Rikki wraps are good!!!! And we didn't found that the Rikki wraps were rubbing her tummy if put on properly. She is even standing up at 7 months old!!!!
