Milk for over ones

Hi - I'm new here! I have a question for you mums of over ones. I understand that once over one, children still need at least 12oz of milk a day (inclusive of what is used in cooking). My DS has just turned one and is a very reluctant milk drinker - I struggle to get 8oz into him, and that is mainly on cereal, in yoghurt, cheesy sauces etc.

Will he come to any harm if he misses out on those last 4oz?

He has an extremely healthy nutritious diet by the way - all homemade and largely organic (and no - I'm not trying to start yet another debate on that issue Wink and he drinks plenty of water

Any ideas on what I could do to persuade him to drink more milk?

Thanks

Have you tried making a kind of milkshake? DS loves milk whizzed up with banana and strawberries - we serve it like a dessert. HTH.

Hi! Our ds1 gave up milk completely when he was just under 1 and we worried ourselves silly..! He reluctantly ate yoghurt but then gave that up. Fortunately he likes cheese, but that's about it on the dairy side of things. He's 4 now and very healthy and energetic! In an ideal world we would have loved him to carry on liking and drinking milk, but if you can, I'd try not to worry about it - although it's hard!

Was reading australian gov nutrition site last night this advised 600ml per day (semi skimmed after 2 yr) between 1-5 although some of this can be made up through other dairy products like cheese, yogurt etc etc

What about custard and rice pudding?

How about yoghurts? Does he like those?

DD1 is skinny. So I top her up sometimes with smoothies made from milk, vanilla ice cream, bananas and frozen summer fruits.

Cheese? Does he like cheese?
