Disposable liners?

Hi

I'm expecting dd2 in a few weeks and will be reusing my little lambs bamboo nappies from dd1. When we originally bought them they came with 2 rolls of flushable liners, which I never used (I used fleece ones). This time I think I'd like to try them , but I've got no idea how! So my stupid questions are:

  • do they go shiny side down into the nappy or out onto the bottom?
  • I know that I can't fold them but they are huge, particularly compared to the size 1s! So do I chop them in half, or leave them sticking out, or tuck them in?

Anything else I should know?

Thanks [:)]

We fold them into three then tear them into three pieces. Officially it's shiny side to poo, I think but it really doesn't matter.

I cut them in 2

Thanks. After an experiment involving soaking one in the sink, and it remaining intact, dh has decided that we shouldn't really use them and risk blocking the pipes, so I guess I'm in for another few years of finding yucky intact food in the washing machine! Grin

I use them with DD and used them with DS, either wayvup and folded to fit. Flush them no problem. Most if the ones I have had say 'flushable' on the pack.

blossombath · 09/07/2012 18:45

you could use them but not flush... that's what i plan to do when on solids with ds (use fleece now), and similar to what sister did with her ds's. I figure i can shake liner contents into toilet as much as poss and then bin the liner in oyr little pedal bin, using nappy bag if particularly stinky. (appreciate this may not be greenest option)

HeadsShouldersKneesandToes · 09/07/2012 19:28

They don't need to disolve in water to be flushable - I'm sure that certain "soft, strong and very long" loo paper brands don't either. They need to be relatively robust so they don't disintegrate when they are in a baby's nappy for 3 or 4 hours, but if it says flushable on the packet then go ahead and flush them (though I'd be cautious if you have a macerator-type loo)

We use these ones and they don't have a shiney side, seem to be usable either way up. Never had a problem with flushing them, I doubt they cause any more problems in the plumbing than their usual contents do. When DS was smaller I used to halve them, but now he's a bit big for that I use a whole one and let there be an inch or so of liner hanging out the sides.

blossombath · 09/07/2012 19:30

oh, and sorry if this is stupid question, why can't you fold them?

totty12mum · 09/07/2012 19:39

They go through washing machines and remain intact! Unless you want blocked drains and a massive plumbing bill I wouldn't risk flushing!

AmandinePoulain · 09/07/2012 21:15

Dh is a bit paranoid about these things since our drains got blocked earlier this year (which wasn't even our fault, it was the neighbours who had been flushing kitchen roll Angry), ever since then I'm banned from even using toddler flushable wipes on dd. So fleece it is then!

Folding them reduces the absorbency I believe?

Oh I've never flushed them (cess pool).
They can just be sent through the wash with the nappies and deal with them the other end - use them twice, compost or bin them.
Shake more solid poos into the toilet.

HeadsShouldersKneesandToes · 09/07/2012 23:12

They aren't absorbent at all - the reason for not folding is because a single layer is easily permeable to liquid that is then absorbed by the nappy - a folded double layer is less permeable and you are more likely to get wee sliding off the liner and leaking out the sides of the wrap instead of being absorbed by the cloth.

BikeRunSki · 10/07/2012 10:22

They would be pretty pointless if they dissolved in water!
