here

Or are the metal ones better? I like the look of the chunky handles on the plastic ones.

We've got 2 loads of it,first was bought about 3 years ago and still going strong. Ds(4) and dd(2) use it or metal interchangeably and also use it when we go camping.

At 90p a set, it's handy to have some in for parties/friends visiting. But my DD found the plastic stuff a bit big. The forks are very pointy.

We stuck to the smaller metal stuff for everyday use. You can get a set from Waitrose/John Lewis for about a tender for 4 sets, I think.

tender tenner!

We have both. DS first started with the plastic stuff and moved on to the 'grown up' metal stuff about 2.5 ish.

The Kalas ones are a bit too big I think, they are the same size as adult cutlery so tricky for little ones to use. The Smaska set are really good for starting off with, short and easy to use.

We also bought some of the Dragan set, they have a mid size knife, fork and spoon set that I think is meant for desserts which is fab for 2yo+

ObviouslyOblivious · 06/07/2012 16:09

DS has the SMASKA, he's 17 months

We have sets of both. My dds (3.8 and 21 months) didn't like the larger plastic one and both use the metal ones happily. The knife is useable, which is rare in children's cutlery (for bananas and similar, it's not actually sharp)

R2PeePoo · 06/07/2012 16:19

We're still using the plastic stuff with DS now, having bought it 6.5 years ago for DD. DS is almost 3 and very confident with the forks and spoons, but he rarely uses the knives as he struggles with them. When my two were younger I bought 10 teaspoons and 10 cake forks from wilkinsons for about £2, which did the trick. We had one of the metal/plastic sets but the metal bit came out of the plastic bit after a while (probably due to the dishwasher).

EldonAve · 06/07/2012 16:21

I found the plastic forks bent and they were a bit too large
Replaced with the metal ones

EldonAve · 06/07/2012 16:22

Sorry should have said replaced with the Fabler all metal ones

more · 06/07/2012 20:06

Only for parties.

Maamekin · 06/07/2012 20:10

I think they are the ones they have available in the Ikea restaurant.

The forks are surprisingly sharp! This made it easy for 11 month old DD to stab her own meatballs but then I was panicking that she would also stab herself with it while inexpertly trying to shove it in her mouth. Better for an older child, but by then they have usually graduated to metal.

I like the chunky handles, and didn't think they seemed too big.

TheArmadillo · 06/07/2012 20:31

dd uses them daily, ds used to but is a bit too big now (7yo). Easy to hold. Pointy enough to actually work. Goes in dishwasher/easily washable. Never had any problems with bending/breaking/going out of shape and had them for a year or so now. I like the colourfulness.

I've never found a metal set with a fork that isn't so blunt as to be entirely useless - plus I don't like the twee designs that you usually get on that kind of thing.

simpson · 06/07/2012 20:32

DD is 4 and still uses the plastic ones.

They have lasted really well we have had them for nearly 3 years now...

Janoschi · 06/07/2012 23:02

Bought some the other week. Brilliant. DD used to refuse 'baby' cutlery and wanted our big stuff, so this was a god compromise. DD is 14 months.

ramblingmum · 07/07/2012 07:57

We have used them for a while but I have just packed them all away as I am sick of the arguments between dds about who gets which colour. Probably best to get a set for each child

mogandme · 07/07/2012 08:00

We have it and use it when we have friends to play/tea.

Used by children 18months-5years

SpagboLagain · 07/07/2012 08:11

We have the metal ones, they are great and fit in little cutlery case for eating out. Looked at the plastic ones but decided the ends of the spoons looked too much like testicles.
