My ds was fine and didn't need calpol at all. The nurse did comment to try avoid if he doesn't really need as can affect the body's response to immunisations but to not let that put us off if he needed it. He was a little grumpy and wanting cuddles but apart from that nothing.

We didn't need it for any of them. Just use if they're uncomfortable, for reason mentioned above.

I would go with after.

This is only my opinion but as calpol can mask temperature and/or symptoms of reactions I would want to see how the dc was before giving the calpol. If the dc was to have a reaction to the jab then I'd rather know as soon as possible rather than the symptoms being delayed.

However, serious reactions are rare and I doubt even calpol with mask the symptoms of a serious reaction if the child was to have one so really, it's up to you.

I have friends who gave calpol before jabs and the babies where still grizzly/felt a poorly after, as well as friends whose babies were absolutely fine after.

When I say after, I mean after if they need it.

After, and only if they need it.
