Holiday in the heat!

So after a bloody awful few weeks (surprise pregnancy then a miscarriage) me and DH are thinking of escapinging the miserable weather for a bit of sunshine and recuperation.

However our DD is 18 months and I'm wondering if 28 -35 degrees (portugal) might be a bit hot for her to cope with? Obviously well take all the sensible precautions - staying out of mid-day heat and covering up but I'm wondering what we could do during the day. We're staying at a family home so no pool except the paddling kind.

Tips and advice needed please.

Depends on how cool the house is - lots of traditional Portuguese houses are cool with shutters to keep out the sun. For trips, might you have access to a car with a/c? he beach has lots of small kids there first thing in the morning and they leave at 11ish. Are you near a beach?

The house should be dark and cool-ish. As you say it's been built to a traditional Portuguese design but there's no ac. We will rent a car for our time out and we're about 30 minutes drive from the beach. It's my DH family home so been there entry of times just not during summer because of heat. Just wondering how to cope with little ones

I think it will be great! We go away somewhere hot every year from the time mine were 12 months (this year its Lanzarote in Aug!). Kids love it, with the beach nearby , sea, pool etc and dont get phased by the heat at all. Take lots of sun lotion, get some sun protection suits if you can, keep them out of the sun midday, and make sure they drink lots of water. Theywill love splashing about in the paddling pool and at the beach if you go. I think our paddling pools will be staying firmly in the shed this 'summer'!
Sounds like you need a break and this will do you the world of good!
Go and Enjoy x

I just came back from a 'holiday' at 5 months pg and with my 2yo DS. It was 38 - 40 degrees every day and we both really suffered, to the point that 2 days after arriving I was seriously considering going back home. I used to live there too so it's not as though I'm a delicate sort who doesn't like heat.

So my advice would be to find somewhere a bit cooler but still nice and sunny. Maybe France?
