Is she close to walking?

First of all I am only asking this because 1) I am ver proud of my little baby and 2) out of curiosity ...NOT because I am a pushy mum!

Baby is 7.5 months and started to crawl at 6months 3 weeks, a week later she started pulling herself up and is now walking holding onto furniture. The other day to let go and tried to walk over to me but wobbled and fell over.

Is she close to walking (say a month or so away) or does this not really mean anything and it could still take her til 12-18 months to walk?

Thank you

Who knows is basically the answer.

If it helps my DN was similar and we thought he would be an early walker. He walked for the first time today at 14 months old.

WelshCat · 30/06/2012 19:46

In my experience, my DS starting pulling himself up and taking a few stumbly steps when he was about 18 months. He is now 23 months and only just walking alone!

Obvs every baby is different, but it could be a while yet. She may get the hang of it in a few months but it might take her a while yet. There is a lot to learn between standing holding on and completely balancing/supporting her own weight. Mind you, she crawled pretty early so you never know!

I thought that might be the case...was just curious really. Thanks.

mine tended to cruise for quite a while before learning to walk, although none of them were doing anything like that at 7.5 months though but ds1 pulling up and cruising about 10 months walked at 15 months, ds2 pulling up and cruising about 12 months walked after 18 months so they all had a good few months of the cruising..
you never know though, but walking at 8 months would be really young!! i have come across some walking at 9 months ish though

Thanks welshcat.

My mum said I started walking at exactly 8months and 2 weeks...hence why I was curious to see if it was genetic(!)

My daughter rolled both ways at three months, crawled at six months, cruised at eight months but then didn't walk unsupported till 14 months (and only really getting going in the last few days, at almost 16 months). So no, it may not mean that at all.

Walking and talking depend on myelination of the nerve axons in their brains, so it doesn't necessarily relate to other movement milestones, as there are other factors affecting it.

We discovered with both DDs that walking came not too far behind being able to stand independently from sitting and balance.

Alabama100 · 30/06/2012 20:04

So from wht it sounds like it could be a month or two away....or over a year away lol, thanks for replying everyone was just curious looks like we'll just have to wait and see....but am still extremely proud of my early sitter, walker, cruiser Smile

There was a baby in the restaurant I was in the other night who was walking, and she was 8 months, according to her parents. It was funny, she was such a tiny little thing, smaller than my 5 month old (who is admittedly a big girl), it looked really odd to see her zooming around the place.

DD herself seems very keen to walk - hold her upright and her little legs start going 19 to the dozen - but I think it'll be a while before her abilities match her enthusiasm!

TheCountessOlenska · 01/07/2012 08:11

DD crawled at 7 months, was very confident cruising from then on, walked on her own at 12 months.

Have met a couple of 9 month old walkers so I don't reckon it's that uncommon!

I was so chuffed when DD started walking, then I had to spend the next 6 months following her round to stop her killing herself - I literally never sat down. I'm hoping for an 18 month walker next time, at least they have some sense by then!!

MirandaWest · 01/07/2012 08:14

DS was crawling at 8.5 months, cruising at 9 months, and then walked at 15 months :)

cupcakelover1983 · 01/07/2012 08:22

DS didn't really crawl - he went straight from cruising at 8 months to walking at 10 months. He hasn't stopped since! He's quick but he doesn't talk particularly well yet and he's almost 2.

Happenstance · 01/07/2012 08:24

DD1 was cruising at 7.5 months walked a week shy of 14months.

kilmuir · 01/07/2012 08:26

You never know with children, they like to do their own thing!

lagoonhaze · 01/07/2012 08:27

my DD is the same- don't want her to walk yet. Means I'm losing my baby..... Plus shoe costs! Great!

Just enjoy her and the moment. Before you know it they have grown up and gone to school.

Alabama100 · 01/07/2012 19:38

Definitly enjoying every minute ladies....as I stated in my original post was just curious as I was such an early walker and baby is crawling and cruising early....again just curious!
