DD is an insomniac - what do I do?

DD is 8. She is a real evening person - full of energy in the evening and finds it really, really hard to settle. I've tried giving her a bath, letting her read before bed and wearing her out well in the day, but these don't seem to work. She's still awake now, and says she can't sleep. This is the third time in a week she's not got to sleep before 11pm (she gets put to bed at 8 with light out by 9pm) She's been so tired she's been falling asleep at school and on the couch before dinner. What else can I do?

Feel your pain. I have 2 fantastic sleepers and 1 midnight wanderer. My dd6 is still awake now too. She'll be exhausted in the morning but even though it's the school holidays I don't let her sleep late. Try everything to make her tired but just doesn't work. Quite often I think I'm asleep before her. She isn't tired through the day though or at school.

Will watch with interest for any advice you receive

I had one like this, she had too much adrenalin, got it sorted out using retained reflexes treatment.

It was amazing, just wish I'd found out about it sooner!

Thanks *random" - what's retained reflexes treatment?

I think could be adrenalin-related with DD. But it doesn't take very much to keep her mind and body to busy to sleep.

DS is on melatonin for bedtime (he is autistic) DD takes at least an hour to 'switch off' and go to sleep, despite a bath, book and relax time.

If you google INPP.org.uk that tells you all about it. However INPP practioners are hideously expensive as they do full complex assessment process before treatment starts but that assessment doesn't actually determine what treatment is required it just provide specific "proof" of what has changed - this is born out of it's scientific research studies.

If you live anywhere near Petersfield in Hampshire or Windsor I can recommend a different practioner - he was fabulous.
