We have only just started paying for chores. At the moment I prefer this on its own to any other pocket money system (like money for nothing, or money for generally good behavior, or deductions for bad behavior, etc.). I think most MNetters argue that some money should be given without strings attached, but I'm not convinced. ANYWAY
20p for taking washing out of machine and putting it on radiators/hanging up outside. But I have to sort thru first for anything that needs drying in airing cupboard/somewhere special. 20p again for retrieving it again from all radiators/line, and folding it up nicely in laundry basket.
20p for sweeping the concrete paths down the drive the other day.
Small amounts here and there for helping in the garden, dusting or vaccumming. I think DS1 (6) might be old enough to peel cooking apples, but haven't tried it yet. He could safely chop them up for me with a child's knife, too. I am seriously thinking to pay 20p (per bog) for toilet scrubbing, too.
I don't pay them to tidy up; they have to tidy before they can watch movies/tv, though. They are expected to hang up their coats, put their shoes on shoe-rack, take plate from table into kitchen after meals, help a bit with their siblings, those kinds of things, for free.
