help - he laughs at naughty step

Hi

I have a naughty toddler (not evil, but a bit more naughty than DS1). He thinks the naughty step is a fun place to be. He enjoys time out in his bedroom - and will rip up a few books given half a chance. How can I discipline this cheeky 2-year-old? I am thinking of resurrecting the playpen to have somewhere to put him in - not quite a coal cellar, but if we had one I'd be thinking about it! Any ideas?

We have done the travel-cot thing as 'Cot of shame' and it worked really well.

I sometimes think that to our DS(24mnth) the words NO!! mean "GO ON... push it over it will make a big mess/break/blow up"
I sympathise

i would either persevere or use the playpen, if he can't get out. if you are firm enough and consistent they soon realise that it is boring and don't play up as much! nothing i have found is 100% effective 100% of the time.

i stick dd (2.4) on my lap facing forward and hold her in a bear hug for the timeout period - she wriggles but she can't get out - now the threat works most of the time. Be careful if they are inclined to bite though - you then need a cushion between them and your arms!
