Hints and tips for taking a 13 month old abroad

In a few weeks we are going abroad on holiday and I am a little nervous about taking my dd who is only 13 months old. The reason I'm nervous is that she is our first child and we've never been on holiday out of this country with her. I've got silly things going through my head like what do we need to pack in our hand luggage for the journey to make things easier, pushchair (we want to buy a cheap one to take), any tips for making the journey easy??? Plus any other hints and tips that will make our first family holiday enjoyable?? Thanks guys!!

Few tips for you here that have work for us, through trial & failure. We have traveled to spain quiet a few times since DS1 was 12months he`s now 4. We have DS2 16months & he has flown/travelled 3 times.

An umberella fold pushcahir that can lie fully back is what you need. you wont have to check this in with baggage, you should be able to take it fairly close if not right up to the plane.
Wear a coat/jacket/trousers with BIG pockets, you can take as much "stuff" as you like pockets, just remember you will have to empty them at security. I now travel with small bags of "stuff" in my BIG pockets. Zip lock bags are good for this.
You can take food & drinks for the baby on the plane.
Me & DH seperate resposability. One of us on "Stuff" and kids & pram one of us with Tickets, money, bags.

Buy what you need day to day there. nappies, wipes, food etc. Take a day or twos supplies & a change of clothes in your hand luggage.
Depending on what baby drinks take 2 cups/bottles. fill one with water and stick it in the freezer...next day water will melt slowly and keep cool longer, great for hot days.
Take or be prepared to buy replacements, a few cloth sun hats, you are bound to lose at least one :)
Plenty of muslins & a handful of pegs .
A couple of cot sheets & a blanket. One that fits in the basket on the pram & the pram still fold is great because you dont have to try & squeeze it into your hand luggage. Dont forget to whip it off before they take your pram at the plane. Airports can be chilly.
Disposable bibs are handy.
Pack a decent sling, not everywhere is pushchair freindly.
A cloth highchair, one that make a little pouch and ties onto any chair, not all high chairs are kid friendly :)
If you are going somewhere hot you wont need half as many clothes as you think you will.

Im sure I have more, but my main advice is to relax & eat as much ice cream as possible. its what olidays is all about :)

We took our DD to Italy when she was 13 months, we took our small buggy with us. My advice would be to take lots of bits to amuse her on the plane as well as lots of nibbles. Do some research on how hot it will be over night so you know what to pack, I was expecting really warm nights so only brought a 0.5tog sleeping bag. have a good holiday, enjoy it!

ooh and bring snacks for your dd, I found it difficult enough to find food suitable for her, but in europe they don't do baby snacks, like rice cakes, cereal bars etc like we do.
