Reusable recommendations for first-time user!

Hi

Sorry there are probably hundreds of threads about this but just looking for some advice....Thinking of switching to reusables with my 10 week old daughter in next few weeks but could do with some recommendations as to what to try...

I think pocket nappies look easiest for me as sound similar to disposable (once made up pretty much like changing a disposable as opposed to piecing bits together) but dry quicker than AIO. Would prefer birth-to-potty as sounds cheaper but my daughter is quite slim (only 10lbs now and long with narrow hips) and don't particularly want the big bum look - would sized be better?!

Any recommendations on brands would be much appreciated! Also how many would I need (washing every 2-3 days and drying on airer)? Don't really want to break the bank either so reasonable price...is that too much to ask?!

Thanks in advance!

PS she's breastfed

Sure I have our Bambino Mio nappies lurking somewhere! Not in Gloucestershire are you! Free to a good home!

BumGenius Pockets are great. Dry fast, relatively slim.

The Bumbles i bought for DS 1 are going strong four years and three babies later. I can't fault them, no leaks and with the booster they are absorbant enough right up to toilet training age. I had no idea where to start with cloth nappies but thenappylady.co.uk was brilliant and offer a free recommendation service. They were spot on for me and the bumbles.

Hmmm, my BGs are now over two years old and have never leaked. Elastic startng to go a wee bit which I am slowly starting to replace. Oh, and they don't stink :)

Washed in Tots Bots Potion, TBSP per load
Dry pailed
Line dried

Bumgenius flips, Bumgenius pockets and totsbots easyfits are easy to use, birth to potty and don't take too long to dry. I'd recommend buying 1 of each to try first. Then you will need about 15 and possibly a few 2 parters eg nappy and separate wrap for overnights when she sleeps through as they are more absorbent. Something like Bamboozle stretch, Easy Peasy Bumble or Ella's house hemp nappies.

does your council do a trial pack at all, not every nappy will suit your LO, i use Close Parent Pop-ins now but have tried a few brands or try here

loopyloopster · 28/06/2012 12:52

Thanks for all the tips ladies! I've just got some recommendations from the nappy lady - think I'll buy a few different brands or buy a trial pack to see what suits us and then stock up after that. Happenstance I've registered with the council but think there's a long waiting list as very popular in my area!

Has anyone tried the little lamb onesize? It's been recommended to me as a budget buy to boost numbers...

Hello ladies,

I'm a first time mum to be and I want to use reusables but really dont know where to start looking! How many would I need? Are there any products in particular which would be recommend for a newborn?

TheWicketKeeperIsDown · 29/06/2012 17:20

I would fill in the questionnaire on The Nappy Lady and/or Nappy Geek - the personalised recommendation was very helpful. The Nappy Lady gives a 5% discount on all products bought from their website for the next year or two.
