A late night too far?

My DSs belong to a swimming club. They use the town baths which a fantastic new facility we are lucky to have. ATM their session is 6:30-7:30 pm. For the next three weeks one of the (foreign) Olympic swim teams will be using the pool for several hours a day, which means it will be closed to the public and the club session has been moved to 7:30-8:30pm.

Usually my DSs are in bed by 8pm and lights out 8:30 so swimming night is already a late one for them. DS2 particularly needs his sleep, I really don't think 9:30 to bed on a school night is a good idea for either of them.

But, I have paid for the sessions whether they use them or not and if they don't go, that will make 5 weeks away from the club as we're on holiday for the first two weeks the sessions are back to normal.

They're 9 & 11. What would you do?

I would try it.

I think 8.30 is a very early bedtime for an 11 year old. I'm sure they'd be fine.

Why not try one session and see how it is, brownies night is always a late one in our house by the time home, snack, shower, faffing about etc it is usually nine o clock before they are in bed (5 and 7) and tbh once a week it does them no harm. They will go bed tomorrow at usual time to catch up.

At 9 and 11 they should be able to take it unless they are particularly sleep hungry kids - some need more than others I guess. You may just need to be extra organised - e.g pjs laid out, toothpaste on brushes etc so you can zoom through bedtime jobs as soon as you get it - or maybe brush teeth and get pjs on after swim!
