Hi all :)

I have just completed Access and will be starting my degree in september... I have no one in RL to ask about things work without sounding like a total muppet, so thought I would sound like a total muppet here instead :)

What happens?

Introduction week...is it just drinking or is it worth going to? What happens then? Will i need to do/take anything?
What are lectures like? Is it someone standing up front and talking at me for two hours whilst i furiously scribble notes? (this is what i imagine purely from tv shows Grin )

Any advice to offer about being a mature student??

Hi, well done for getting on your course!

I'd definitely go to the organised lectures/meetings in induction week. You will get all the information about your course and your tutor group.

You will also meet your fellow students, when I first started the mature students seemed to gravitate towards each other!

There are a lot of drinking/social events advertised if you are so inclined. As it's Fresher's Week, the surrounding area is full of young and beautiful people handing out flyers/free condoms/other crap. It's like running a gauntlet! (Be prepared for them to offer you one then withdraw it sharpish when they realise you are 'old' Grin)

Lectures are how you imagine. You will become an old hand at taking notes. They usually put the lectures online now so you can go over it at a later point in more detail.

Oh, and as you are a first year you must go in to register on the start date to release your student finance/loans.

Good luck! Smile

Thankyou for replying, I am excited and terrified in roughly equal measures at the moment so it helps to have an idea of what is going on :)

At one of the open days with a friend and we were confused for parents...nice! haha! Grin

Thankyou Smile

Ooh glad I spotted this. I'm starting in september as a ancient mature student too. Am bricking it it. Totally.
