First shoes for a 13 month old

My dd has just started cruising. At the moment she's wearing her lovely soft little Daisy Roots shoes. However, I'm wondering if she needs something a little more sturdy at this stage - or is it still too early?

if she is just cruising i would leave her until she is walking. i waited until dd had been walking a month or so. something to do with whether they are still curling their toes to walk.

I think they only need proper shoes when they start walking outside

Clarkes do cruising shoes they cost about £15 but definitely worth the money especially for when they are cruising outside. They are a little more sturdier then soft shoes yet more flexible then proper shoes. Apparently if you put them in proper shoes at this stage then they could revert to crawling as they wont be able to feel the floor properly. I would recommend them as it does protect there feet when they are outside and also it prepares them for proper shoes later on. Clarkes also do shoes for crawling although that probably is a waste of money. You could wait a little while before dd gets more confident at cruising and then see how she goes with them.

No she's best in soft shoes liek DR or ideally bare feet unless she regularly toddling outside , although that is less likely at this time of year.

Can I tag on to this please? My ds is 13 months and just started walking by himself (for the last three months he has been walking with either me or dh holding his hands).
I want him in bare feet as much as poss but worry about being outside. He gets so excited about walking that I want something I can easily slip onto his feet which would protect them but still give his feet freedom (I'm a hippy at heart)! I can't think what would be best...

DD has Clarks cruising shoes (cost more like £20) seems to get on fine in them, but didn't have much option as feet so wide would not fit anything else, had to go up half size too! I don't put them on for the whole day just when out and about visiting or outside at home bare feet fine.

WasabiPea · 08/06/2010 21:46

I only want them for outside or anywhere bare feet aren't appropriate so that sounds ideal, thanks! £20 is a bit steep, especially if he goes through them like he does socks!! Suppose this is just the start though!

They last around two months before they outgrow them, maybe longer.
