Hiya, you might want to ask to have your thread moved to the parenting section.Smile

Hello,

We've moved this thread to Parenting as we feel it's a better fit.

Thanks.

Oh yes :) We were having a deep and meaningful the other day where I popped in a question along the lines of 'do I listen to you enough?'. DS (12) replied that mostly I did (even if I don't necessarily do what it is he wants me to do) but that he often doesn't listen to me. For shame!!! But nicely self-aware.

I find the instruction 'look at me' and getting them to turn their head towards you helps a lot. As does switching off distractions like TV. Also, just one instruction at a time...

DD1 is going through a similar phase I've even threatened to take her to the doctor to have her hearing checked!!! She just completely ignores me and I feel so frustrated. Now I've said it's 3 strikes(if I have to say something more than 3 times) and then 10mins off her tv time. Works sometimes but not always.

Enfyshedd · 20/06/2012 22:02

If the tv is on and either DSS1 (13) or DSS2 (6) don't do as they are told or aren't listening, I just turn the tv off there and then. It means that I've missed a few minutes of a few programs I was enjoying, but they've always jumped when I've done it.

And use the main power button, not the remote. Children are really lazy these days Wink

Make sure that you look at her and ask her to repeat it back. Keep it simple to start with. A lot of time they don't listen because they don't want to!
My mother reckoned that I wouldn't hear if she asked me to set the table, but she only had to whisper if she was offering sweets! Grin
