How often did your ds/dd wee when potty training?

Just trying for the first "proper" time today with ds aged just over 2 1/2. Have had some successes so really pleased, but he seems to wee so often! Is this common when starting potty training? It seems to be every 20 mins or so at the moment....just trying to tell if it means he's not quite ready, or wether a few days of persevering will pay off.

they wee an extraordinary amoutn of times to begin with IIRC .. but it settles down after a few weeks .. they have to learn to store it up

Thanksf Twiglett. I expected him not to be able to wait, just thought I might be able to get away with at least 1/2 hr in between! I have a lot to learn (have found a method of bribery which works a treat for us though )

My ds now 2yrs 3mnths has been trained (or training) since he was 18mths. Was great to begin with until about 3mnths ago and now he seems to have gone backwards. Used stickers and bribery (usually a chocolate button)which had good results. I honestly think that his accidents are not accidents as he tends to wee his pnts when he doesn't want to do something (i.e go out). Never missed with a poo though! Found Tommy Tippee travel potty ivaluable.

same here, when we started potty-training ds1 was doing lots of little wees all over the house. I was taken aback to see how frequently he did this but it did settle down over the course of a few days.

Thanks all We've managed several hits and I think about an equal amount of misses. He seems really keen to sit on the potty...which in a way is great as we get the wee in there sometimes and can praise him. But on the other hand I want him to learn the "I need to go" feeling, rather than it just being luck.

Doolaly - choc buttons are the best, and really seem to be helping. We have not yet managed a poo though and I do have a fear of him getting hugely constipated

Has Cod set up a potty training school yet, where she will have all our kids for a week and just do it for us? I would glady pay!

Yes it is normal, part of potty training is learning bladder control, once they are confident at potty training, it is a good idea to sometimes try and get them to hold for a short time on before going, but only 30 seconds or so and build it up to a few minutes as this will also help with bladder control.

My ds will only poo at home and when it is quiet. Don't worry too much abut constipation - tho I find raisins help with this and mine 3 love them especially in the little boxes.
