I tell you, there must be a big market out there for orange bibs! No stains ever again! Why don't they sell them?

KenningtonKitty · 25/02/2006 17:34

I read a book recently where a woman fed them in the bath - Guess if you have a messy eater then makes sense - although not sure they will be popular on the dating market if not sorted by time they are 18 !!

i let the girls have their pudding in the bath if we're running late..where's teh harm?

I'll admit it - I used to change ds1 from head to toe if he got a fleck of dust on him! And all his bibs matched his little outfits, and they all had the right day of the week on them too I know it's silly, but I was just dotty about him. We nearly lost him, and I nearly expired having him, and he was (and is) such a phnomenally beautiful and special and sweet little sausage. I Admittedly now I've got two of them I am a little more phlegmatic about mess and not quite so anal about matching socks/bibs/hats but I don't see what was wrong with going to town on it all when my first was tiny. I spoilt him rotten and loved every minute of it, and I took about 100,000 photos of him in all his little matching outfits too. So there!

Bah humbug to the lot of you!

Twiglett · 25/02/2006 17:48

hmmm so we're setting up a kind of 'you have to be naked to eat' mentality

I see a new fetish forming in a couple of decades .. strip me, strip me feed me mushed bananananana

intergalacticwalrus · 25/02/2006 17:55

Lol Twiglett!!!!

I think I did it once when DS was first eating and had a habit of spitting his food out in a hose spray like fashion down his tops.

I tend to buy navy tops for him, as they don't show up the stains. Is this woman mental? bibs to match outfits, I ask you.

Hope the kid turns into one of those that always steps in dog poo and likes rolling in mud (like I was). I bet she'd have a fit!

Twiglett · 25/02/2006 17:59

must say I think there's nothing more attractive than a dirty child .. dirt is good

I like the slightly feral look

The cutest ds has ever looked was when he helped us put down bark in the garden and his little face was covered in dust. He looked like the artful dodger.

Oh! Misread title. I thought it said that she took off her clothes to feed the child. Had to read the thread to see why on earth she would do that. Thought it might be something to do with breastfeeding and making it easier to get baby in position!

going4potty · 25/02/2006 20:12

Greensleeves go for it. I must say dont see harm especially if food is likely to stain. Cant use abbrasive cleaners in was as ds still has eczema, so if hes eating curry etc with a light top on i whip it of and try giving him a bib.

Ds (now 20months) started taking bibs off ages ago and bib's didn't really keep his clothes clean anyway so in the summer he ate in a nappy and when it got colder I went to Matalan and got 8 pairs of cheap pyjamas (4pairs for £8) and use them as 'eating clothes'. It's so much easier, he doesn't try to take them off like he did when I tried sleeved bibs and I just stick them in the washing machine afterwards.
I got this idea when I saw some all over body bibs (like towelling sleepsuits) in a baby mag but they were £8 for 1 so this way was much cheaper and it means I don't have to buy so many clothes in each size IYSWIM!

Flossam · 25/02/2006 21:17

LOL! Can see its not a bad plan actually! I could never see the point of those bibs that have arms untill in recent weeks when DS has started to try and self feed. We now have two. For some reason....

WestCountryLass · 25/02/2006 21:33

I used to do this with my DD as she had to feed herself and was literally plastered in food after eating. I had bibs with arms but they just had velcro tabs and she would rip them off, if I put a bib round her neck she would tug and tug at it and get all stroppy. Was easier with her to whip her top off, let her eat, wipe her down and put her top back on - no biggy really!

FrannyandZooey · 25/02/2006 21:55

I also thought this was going to be a "look what the loony pervy breastfeeders are up to now" kind of thread.

Glad it wasn't

harpsichordcarrier · 25/02/2006 21:57

me too franny
I did used to do this sometimes when dd1 was v little and eating something with a tomato sauce....

nulnulcat · 25/02/2006 22:23

i always took her clothes off to feed her as the stains never came out but i weaned her in summer and it was nice weather also fed her in the garden to save on mess as well she always took bibs off so abandoned them quickly is 2 now and not very good at feeding herself so if it looks like its getting messy then i put on her full length pinny thing from nursery covers all of her! oh and she has always worn matching everything and i change her clothes if they get dirty and would never put her in the same clothes 2 days in a row and yep im always washing!

I sometimes feed ds in the bath when I really can't face wiping any more slimy bits off highchairs of cleaning the floor yet again that day Blush

hovely · 27/02/2006 16:14

ahem
I feel that DS is only enhanced by food stains and splashes, the point of clothes is to keep the mess off the child IMO. Plastic bib with a little pocket is handy because he can get bits back out and eat them.
actually I would be concerned that it would set up some weird relationship with food in future life, if not quite the fetish that Twiglet describes, then at least some fastidiousness that means he won't eat things with enthusiasm.

PiccadillyCircus · 27/02/2006 16:18

I misread the title as well Smile
