Guess it must depend where you live, they seem really nice in Brighton. We dont even own a car and frankly you dont need to round here - bus service is fantastic and you can just wheel buggys straight on. Maybe a better service makes for happier customers and nicer drivers - we're very lucky.

Think it's probably down to the culture of the company as well, whether focus is on customer service or hitting targets at all costs

NannyL, your post made me smile.

I thought IF ONLY!!!

Bus drivers earn £6000 a year less than bin men where I live!

I know loads who'd happily swap if they could....

Well I frequently get kicked and punched (in the face!), bitten, sworn at in my job. Not nice but no way could I treat people the way some bus drivers do. Freely admit the most are pleasant or OK but I have had some very nasty experiences from Bus drivers which has ruined my faith in any of them.

i didn't realise that they got fined and doesn't his bosses pay any attention to the work time regs act that said you have to have 12hr break between shifts? or am i completely wrong?
i work on checkouts at a supermarket so i partly understand you screwball. i get so many customers who are absolutely lovely and remember their manners but some are so rude, it doesn't cost two seconds to say please and thank you but so many don't even consider saying so.
i can actually now get a disciplinary if just one person complains because it's that draconian where i work, yet if a customer is rude i'm not allowed to say anything!(in a nice way, of course! not even the supervisors remember their manners all the time......
i'm sorry perhaps i should have left my soapbox at home

airbabe · 25/02/2006 22:48

you want rude people then try working for an airline a lot of people are ok a few are very nice but afraid to say the vast majority of the flying public tend to check there manners in with there luggage! least bus drivers only have there passengers for a short space of time we get stuck wiht ours for hours!!

a friend of mine was on the bus with her DD. The bus driver stopped so suddenly (friend thought he was speeding anyway) that her DD was flung forward and hit her head on the metal bar on the seat in front. She had a great whacking bruise on her head. Complained to the bus company, no action taken about the driver, told her they couldn't prove the bruise had happened on the bus!

mummytosteven · 26/02/2006 08:18

I agree there is no excuse for rudeness - but also that we should not be saying ALL bus drivers are bas&tards. The vast majority of my problems with buses are IMHO down to design of the buses - many don't have buggy spaces, or they are difficult to manoeuvre in or out of, rather than the actual bus driver.

Most of them are gits, they are the same in Spain too. But I remember one lovely one in Poole who got off the bus in the pouring rain and tried to help me collapse dds pram as there was no room on the bus for it. He tried for 15 minutes, got soaked, hugged me when I burst into tears and was really kind when I decided to give up and go home, so they're not all bad.

The two arguements that I have had in Spanish have both been with bus drivers, nothing to do do with prams though, says alot I think.
