Trying to potty train dts, they know what the potty is for and sit on it rugulary, but will not wee on it, if I try to put them on it whilst they are weeing, they both just stop mid-flow, could that lead to a bladder infection??
I know they are ready, and I know that they know what to do, so where do I go from here?

Leave it for a few weeks. Better to delay than to get stressed about it. Let the potty be available, and encourage tyhem to sit on it - just before the bath is a good time - and reward them for weeing but not be bothered if they don't.

Then, in a month or so, try proper training again.

Thanks PrettyCandles
I am not stressed about it at all really, besides I dont think I have much choice as they refuse point blank to keep their nappies on, they whip them off as soon as my back is turned, and I dont want to discourage that, I'm just looking for a quick trick to get them to wee on the potty, as as I dont think there is any way of going back.

Give them loads of juice and fizzy water - that'll make them pee more often. If you can bear the inevitable puddles! But then you're more likely to catch them in time to pee in the pot. Also, you could try sitting them on the pot every 20m, so that they start the pee in the pot rather than surprising them mid-flow. Of course this may not be practical with twins, but it's what I did with my ds.

Yes I could try upping their fluid intake, as they already have good bladder control, so they only go 4-5 times a day.

Agree maybe leave it till 2.4yrs this age i feel is always prime time, thats only leaving it about 8weeks. Both my 2 kids were trained at this age and were trained within 3days, have the potties out and then have a half hour, same time every day where its nappy free time, if they use the potty fantastic, if not just leave it until they go to it, maybe take a few days or weeks but they will eventually click, good luck oh can i also say a wee sticker chart is good or maybe a sticker on their top every time a wee is done in the potty

I would prefer to leave it a couple of months, but they refuse to wear nappies, so I thought I would try and follow their lead. The only way I can keep their nappies on at night is to selotape them on

really waterfalls, how about buying them each a pack of the pull ups? think they have Dora for girls and ? for boys and saying they are special bed time ones that can be pulled down, could you maybe make a bedtime routine out of it? pull ups on, pyjamas on then a trip to the big boy toilet then bed?

waterfalls · 24/02/2006 20:59

Yes I could try that, but dont have much faith in them as ds only ever saw them as fancy nappies, and the other thing is they will be able to take them off, and I have had far too many incidents where I have gone into their room to find mess all up the walls (hence the selotape)
They can take vests with poppers underneath off, they have dungarree(sp?) type pjs, they can take them off too, it does'nt matter what clothing I put on top, they can take it off to get their nappies off, then they get themselves dressed again, minus the nappy...............the little terrors

oh dear Lord in Heaven.

When it's my time I'm sending them to you waterfalls. Well I figure with your experience mine will be a piece of cake.

I remember DD2 coming in and saying "Not wear nappies not no more!" There was nothing that I could do to make her wear nappies, including at night. So I had to do a lot of laundry and keep putting her on the potty. She took a week to train.

I feel the fear coming over me now!

yes, it does get a bit messy, but all is forgiven when they smile at me sweetly, as if to say 'yeah but we are cute mum'
