Once or twice a week.

Older keids may need a bath more often, but at 18 months dd generally just gets a bit snotty and gets food on her top: nothing a flannel can't deal with!

Actually I have to admit that she occasionally goes longer than that without a bath. We don't have central heating and I often forget to put the heater in the bathroom in time...

JanHR · 07/12/2003 13:45

THey don't need a bath every day.
I bath DD every other day or every 3 days depending on how mucky she is.

popsycal · 07/12/2003 13:47

good - i felt like a right minger for a while there!!!

We don't have central heating either, so I take her into either her bedroom or ours to get dried and dressed.
Also Usually do it at night time them it is bedtime

SenoraPostrophe · 07/12/2003 13:50

Some people do go over the top with these things don't they?

SenoraPostrophe · 07/12/2003 13:51

Jan - bedrooms are just as cold as the bathroom and I need to remember to heat them too! Being pregnant doesn't help.

popsycal · 07/12/2003 13:53

i usuakky do it at bedtime too
i agree about over doing baths¬!

We have a heater in her bedroom which is on a timer set to come on 30 mins before she usually goes to bed.. It is also set to come on in te night for a bit. We have a storage heater in our bedroom

popsycal · 07/12/2003 13:58

i just take having central heating for granted,,,,i gues that i shouldnt really

We are going for underfloor heating when we get our new house built next year

colette · 07/12/2003 14:13

My sil baths both every night . Glad to hear that I am not that unusual . DD about twie a week , ds about the same or more often if he has a nappy explosion.

marialuisa · 07/12/2003 14:14

Always once a day, sometimes twicw. Have only recently stopped washing ger every day (fear of nits) and she's always had loads of hair...

So, I guess you'll find me over the top, and i'll be faintly horrified!!
The most embarrassing moment I had was when one post-natal group mum I always thought of as a bit grubby said "Oh, excuse DD'\s hair, it's got banana treatment in it" I took her literally and said something like"those intensive conditioner things don't do much for my hair or DD's, just makes it look greay" only for her to explain that her DD had squashed a banana into her hair and they'd come out without washing it. Revolting!!

I bath dd (4 years) every other day and ds (19 months) every 4-5 days due to the water making his eczma worse, even using a flannel makes him itch so I just wipe as little as possible and apply heaps of cream.

I went out and got him some lovely pjs for xmas morning but they have short sleeves and am now worried that his eczma will flare up befor he gets to wear them

BadHair · 07/12/2003 14:42

Mine both have a splash every night as part of bedtime ritual. Partly to make sure that ds2 hasn't got poo left lurking in folds, but mainly because dp and I go gooey over the smell of fresh clean baby and toddler.

tinyfeet · 07/12/2003 15:10

every day before she goes to sleep - 21 months old. night-time ritual.

Angeliz · 07/12/2003 15:51

i always bathed dd,2.8, every day but recently i miss the odd day when she doesn't feel like it! she has loads of hair and hates having it washed so thats only twice a week!

cazzybabs · 07/12/2003 17:05

Once a week and that's enough for me, although my mum tokd me off and said Ishould be bathing dd (19 months) more!

hmb · 07/12/2003 17:08

Every day. It is part of their wind down, and they love the bath. Hair is washed 2x a week after they swim

lailag · 07/12/2003 17:13

I guess it is about once or twice a week. Usually when DH asks when they last had a bath (because they look so grubby???). Usually I can not quite remember when they last had a bath so I then quickly put DS and DD together in the bath...

Cha · 07/12/2003 17:25

Every other day, sometimes more, for my two - dd 2 and ds 3 months. Thought I was being a bit lax and occaisionally felt guilty. Now feel much better! Wash dd's hair every month as it never looks like it needs it and ds has none yet.

popsycal · 07/12/2003 17:27

i actually bath ds every other day or every third day.....
hair washed each time usually
used to bath him every day when little...but now he loves to splash.......

zippy539 · 07/12/2003 19:08

Every night for both of them. Not cause they need it but because it's part of the bedtime routine and has been since day one. I'm scared to stop now cause they're both brilliant sleepers so I don't want to change anything in case it all goes pearshaped! Hair gets washed once a week.

marthamoo · 07/12/2003 19:10

Didn't bath ds1 every night, but now I have ds2 as well I do (both in together). They both like it, neither has sensitive, excema-prone skin, but the main reason I do it is that it's part of their winding-down bedtime routine. I didn't have a bedtime routine with ds1 and he was a dreadful sleeper, I do have a routine with ds2, he's miles better, and now I daren't deviate!

So, for me, it's nothing to do with cleanliness (for cleanliness I reckon one/twice a week is adequate for most little ones) but more a habitual, night-time routine thing.

I remember this topic coming up on another site I used to frequent and it kicked off the most heated debate...I await further postings with interest

tamum · 07/12/2003 19:15

Same here marthamoo, I've always bathed mine every night, but it's the winding-down that's important for me. They've always played great games in the bath too, so that's a plus, but it's really the night routine thing. They miss the odd night, but not often.
It's not really something that should matter that much one way or the other, I'd have thought

slug · 07/12/2003 20:44

I would LOVE to bathe the sluglet less than once a day, however, she's having none of that. Come 6.30pm if we haven't made a move towards the bathroom, she'll drag out her bath (we still use the baby bath in the big one to save water) and start demanding. Just to make her point she'll start miming splashing while shouting "bath! bath! splashie"

Any display of the pyjamas without an accompanying bath results in hysterics. If she had her way she'd have 3 baths a day, loves the water does my girl.
