I have a 7y ds who still has problems with chewing hard foods. He hates eating meat and if I ask him for help choosing meat in the supermarket, his reply is always whichever is quickest to eat. He tends to try and avoid hard foods that he has to put effort into chewing. I've tried giving him hard chewy sweets but his approach to these is to tear them and then suck them. We've never really avoided giving him certain foods and its only really the last few years its become more of an obvious problem.
He was diagnosed with oro-motor problems/verbal dyspraxia when he was younger but we've always concentrated on his speech rather than anything else. We are currently waiting on a referral back to speech therapist with help for some of his final letter sounds (th, sh, ch) - is this something we need to bring up with her or should I go to the GP for a referral to someone else.
Does anyone have an advice?
