Does price make for a better nappy?

First time mum. I am wondering whether the most expensive branded nappies really are any better than other makes. I want to be a savvy shopper mummy!

I don't find it makes any difference personally - he's currently wearing Asda ones, he's previously worn huggies/pampers/whatever was available and I've never had any issues with leaking or rashes.

Other people seem to have other experiences though.

Have tried own brands and Huggies but always end up coming back to Pampers, just think they're superior on containing disasters!

Nooooooooo! Not for disposables anyway, see thread on the testing on the Aldi nappies.
Reusables probably but second hand ones are always worth a look, there are many websites dedicated to this.

Not in my experience - DS used to wear tesco or asda ones as a newborn, wilko's when he got a bit bigger and now tesco pull-ups are best for night time. Every time I used Huggies they leaked, pampers baby dry gave him a rash, and pampers active fit just used to seep through really quickly.

KateSpade · 11/06/2012 10:29

I tried pampers & huggies when my DD was first born, huggies I found terrible, they leaked with the slightest bit of urine, & it soaked into her clothes.

Now I use sainsburys/asda own brand, both are excellent. & as long as they work well, I wouldn't worry about the name, their only for collecting shit anyway. Grin

KateSpade · 11/06/2012 10:30

Ah! Other people have said the same about huggies! Glad it's not just me!

MousyMouse · 11/06/2012 10:30

no.
we get on fine with whatever is the supermarket housebrand. particularly nice are the asda and lidl ones.
but it also depends on the shape of the baby. for ds (very skinny) huggies fit best, but dd gets on best with asda and lidl...

trikken · 11/06/2012 10:34

I like the lidle ones too

EauRouge · 11/06/2012 10:42

I find Pampers crap, they are really flimsy (the tape came off on loads of them) and the absorption is rubbish. Huggies are OK but we found the Tesco own brand fine. We mainly use washables for DD2 but DD1 has grown out of them.

TheonlyWayisGerard · 11/06/2012 10:47

I buy whatever works out cheaper. Currently have Tesco value ones for daytime for 21mo DD. Not sure how they'd cope at night though but at £1.59 a pack I couldn't resist. Currently using Huggies at night with no issues. I bought them from Heron.

Thanks everyone! This is really useful, i was looking at the price differences in the shops and wondering whether i really have to spend that much on nappies!

asda disposables often top all the branded nappies in the which tests but i dont use disposables i know with reusables more expensive does not mean better

kittybloom · 20/06/2012 22:10

As others have said, asda nappies are fab.
