Will she take a teat? DD2 is on meds everyday and it all goes into a teat. Occasionally, she is ace at pushing it out with her tongue, but I usually win the battle of wills.

I hate dosing with calpol. Ds was just turned 1 last time he had it. We were all sticky for days. Blw has something to answer for on that count!

Have been to boots for some syringes though (our last one lost its numbers from too much washing) so hopefully it will be easier next time.

If you can get suppositories they're great - I got someone to get me some the last time they went to France. Easy and work just as fast. Might be worth a chat to the pharmacist to see if they have any - if doctors can prescribe them presumably pharmacists carry a stock.

This is an old thread but I need help, I have tried squirting the calpol towards his inside cheek and also the blowing thing but he still spits it out. Asides from being a little messy do you think I could squirt the required amount onto my boob and have baby take it whilst breastfeeding… he is only 11 weeks & no other way seems to work Confused

The thought of putting calpol on my boob makes me squirm cos it’s so damn sticky 😂 I’d have to shower straight away! Worth a try though I think.

I never had any luck getting my baby to take calpol until she took a bottle. Then I just mixed it with an ounce of milk and she drank it straight down. Does your baby ever have a bottle?

How old is ypur baby? My DS hated having calpol from a syringe but would willingly have it from a spoon.

You don't. Get your doctor to prescribe paracetamol suppositories. You can also buy them online.

DD would reject any and all medicine given, no matter the method. Syringe, spoon, boob, yoghurt. You think it, I tried it. She'd had a fever for a few days, so I called 111. Their doctor heard my woes and prescribed the suppositories. They worked amazingly.

She takes medicine from a syringe now she's a bit older.

This is a last resort.

Oh I saw baby is 11 weeks. Mine was 11 months at the time. Nvm. DD rejected Calpol when I gave it at the 8 week jabs, and didn't need it for 12 or 16 week jabs. Sorry I haven't helped.

Dyra · 24/06/2021 21:56

Oh very much a last resort, but I was at that point.

I saw this on here when I needed it and I agree it's a great way if your baby will suck a bottle teat- just stick the syringe directly into the teat, pop that in mouth then push the Calpol slowly through. For future I also found 'proper' syringes better than the Calpol one, you can get boxes of them on Amazon etc (I have them in stock for my animals and just decided to try one one day!). Then one day DD realised that Calpol is actually quite tasty and is only too happy to take it. Asda's version is very popular in this house!

If you’re using the sugar free, try the stuff with sugar in - I had the same problem a few months ago and mumsnet came to the rescue with this handy tip! The consistency is much nicer for them.

BertieBotts · 24/06/2021 22:02

Does she take a bottle? Put it in a bottle with some juice/squash. Don't worry about the sugar for an occasion like this. Only way DS1 would ever take it. DS2 loves the stuff Confused

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 24/06/2021 22:08

Agreed. Get the sugary stuff!

BertieBotts · 25/06/2021 09:18

I have to admit I haven't seen the full sugar stuff on sale for years. I didn't know they still did it.
