DD is nearing six months and she is my first. As such, I do wonder every now and then whether she is eating, sleeping etc the right amount and whether she is 'on track' developmentally.

So, I am asking all you parents of 6 month olds to share the good the bad and the ugly about your 6mo. What are their characteristics, foibles, eating and sleeping patterns.

So to sum up, everything really Grin

Offering carte blanche for stealth boasting, which will be unchallenged, and still no takers

My DD is 8.5 month now. Can I still reply though?

When she was 6 months she had just moved into her cot in her own room and had just stared eating solids.

Her sleeping was pretty good at that time, although a month later she went through a very unsettled period, but it didn't last too long.

That any use to you? Doesn't sound very exciting I'm afraid. Sorry. Someone else will be along soon I'm sure

DD is 8 months now but at 6 she was sleeping in her own room (from 4 months) and through the night (from 3 months). She had started 'weaning' but ate nothing and wouldn't feed herself, now, thankfully, she is more interested. She was (and still is) napping three times a day for a total of about 4 hours. She had rolled over a few times but not often (and still doesn't bother) and was shakily sitting by herself, with lots of cushions, for not very long! She's still not interested in crawling, standing etc. She was developing a sense of humour and would get the giggles when tickled. She was also getting more interested in the world, looking at things that weren't right in front of her etc. Is that the kind of thing you want?

My lovely little chubby little apple of my eye DS is bob on six months.

He rolled front to back at about four months, and has been doing back to front for the past couple of weeks. He kindly fell into the routine of feed-wake-sleep at about 10 weeks, and has remained at something akin to that ever since, so has 3-4 30-45 minute naps during the day.
As I went back to work when he was 4.5 months, and DP took over, we moved to mix feeding (about 50/50) from ebf. He goes down at half 7; dream-feed at half 10, and for the past month has been going through til 6/7am (with the odd dummy re-insertion).

Good tempered but is described as 'serious' Hmm by lots of people because he doesn't smile like a loon, although he's very smiley with us.

Everything, but everything, goes into his mouth. Can sit up a bit, and that's been coming on loads since last weekend when we got him a second hand bumbo.

We get a good explosive nappy once a day!

Making 'da da da' noises, which I tell DP is not Dada, but just DS trying out noises (and he does love a chatter, DS that is).

Wish he had a bit more hair, but otherwise luvverly (total pfb and I don't care! Grin)

Kaloo...do you have my DD??! Everything you wrote is identical here! Glad that DD is back to sleeping through the night. That waking up malarky completely threw me for a while. It was like she was 3 weeks old again!!!

I have 6 1/2 mo twins too. They are at different stages developmentally.

DTS can roll in both directions and many times, he can cross the jumbo playmat in about 10 seconds. He has 2 teeth. He can't sit up for very long unaided (like 30 seconds). He laughs when we play peekaboo or I tickle him. He can bounce in his babybjorn for about 30 minutes at a time using both legs at once and gets up a high speed! He doesn't cry when he is dunked underwater at swimming lessons. He grabs my glasses off my face every time I wear them. He will hold finger foods like brocolli, bread, pear and suck/chew them and has never refused any food so far. He is always smiling and is very handsome

DTD can't roll yet and has no teeth. She can sit up for minutes at a time. She doesn't laugh but her screaming can wake the street up. She makes fantastic noises (raspberries, fake coughs, weird growling, high pitched shrieks). She doesn't like any food except mango, sweet potato, scrambled egg and rare steak. At music classes she will shake a maraca and bang a drum. She smiles less often but is very beautiful.

Both sleep through the night and have done from 12 weeks (11pm to 7am) and from 7pm to 7am since about 5 months.

My ds is almost 6 months and we have just started blw him - so far he has eaten very little though.

He is ebf and feeds every 3 -4 hours in the day and has slept through (11pm - 7am) a couple of times in the last week for the first time. Normally he wakes once for a feed though.

Evenings are still v unsettled and not sure what that is about. We put him down at 7pm but he always wakes an hour later and then won't resettle until 11 - 12 it has been like this for a couple of months.

He can roll onto both sides, and from his front to back. Can sit v briefly unaided, smiles lots and laughs spontaneously - he was giggling at my sisters puppy the other day - v cute.

ComeTalkToMe · 08/06/2012 12:45

My gorgeous DD is 6 months today and first I must say how jealous I am of all your sleepers!

DD can roll both ways since about 4 months, can sit up herself for a wobbly while, makes loads of noises and giggles a lot. She also will only nap on me which she does 3 times a day. Wakes about 3 or 4 times a night and takes anything from 10 to 45 mins to get back to sleep. She can be quite moany in the evening and screams when getting dressed.

She's been eating solids for a couple of weeks and has lived everything but the mess is something else!

She's my PFB and I adore her but boy it's hard sometimes!

GnocchiNineDoors · 08/06/2012 12:53

Thank you all of you!

DD will be 6 months old in a week. She can roll tummy to back, but has only managed back to front twice. She can't sit unaided yet but I don't think it's too far away. She is FF, and has bottles every three hours in the day, although this week she has been eating more actual food, so seems to be moving naturally onto a 4hour milk thing.

She can last around 2 hours awake, and sleeps in her cot (if in, or buggy if out) for around 45mins. She gets put down awake with a dummy and a cuddly toy and falls asleep like that. Nighttime she doesn't have a dummy unless she wakes in the night then we shove pop it back in. She goes to bed at 6.30 after a bath and bottle, and can wake for food in the night sometimes and sometimes sleeps til 6.30am, theres no 'certainty' to her night time sleep.

She giggles and proper belly laughs, especially at one of her aunties, who she finds hilarious. Her favourite game is lying down and me wafting a Muslin down onto her over and over. Not sure if it's the draft she enjoys?

She is BLW, though will take food off a spoon (but prefers to actually shove the spoon in herself). We've finally took her swimming and she seemed to like it, so hoping to go weekly now (local pool is across the road). I do wonder if she is too serious and introvert, as she is a starer. People on the bus cower in their seats at her glare. But when she does smile, her face lights up.

She seems to love nappy off time, but wriggles so much I have to chase her round with a towel underneath her!
