Its my Little boys first Birthday in a Months time and having never attended a a babies birthday before now I am panicing:

1.Does anyone have a good birthday cake recipe safe for a 1 year old to eat?

2.Any party food ideas, good for babies and adults? (Preferably not processed)

3.Any Party games ideas? Or is this too much for a 1 year old and his little friends? (who will range from 7months to 1.5years).

Am I panicing unnecessarily? LOL...

Thanks in advance for your help :)

We had a small party at my DM's house (because of parking at ours), it was mainly family and a few DC aged 1-3.

My NDN makes cakes, so she did her cake, just a normal cake recepie, we have no food allergies etc so any recepie is fine for a 1 yr old to eat.

Food was standard party food, salad, pizza, sandwiches, crisps and dips, veg sticks and hummous/dips, chicken drumsticks, etc.

I provided some fruitshoots for those who wanted them, and also fresh fruit juice and plenty of toddler beakers for water if that was prefered. Most drank water and fruit juice to be fair!

I didn't do games, just had a good selection of toys out and a sandpit and ball pool in the garden but the weather was a bit dodgy so they didn't get used.

I wouldn't panic, just think of it as a coffe morning on a larger scale at this age. The DC will potter on and play themselves and the parents can drink coffee and eat cake.

Unless anyone you know has food allergies, I would just do a regular buffet, most 1 year old will have a go at a good variety of food, and you can cut sandwiches into fingers etc to make it easier for them.

Don't bother with games (one year olds don't co-operate!), just food and drink for littlies and grown ups, lots of toys out on a blanket and disposable plates/cups/cutlery to save the washing up.

My Dd didn't like cake at that point, so I got my mum to make my favourite carrot cake :)

My advice is not bother to have one. The baby will never know the difference and who needs the stress?

On the other hand, invite your mates around, have cake and Wine and call it for the baby's birthday! Grin

And any cake is suitable for a 1 year old, so long as it doesn't have honey and there are no known allergies.

The champagne has been ordered Tee Wink, the party is for me really, but I am sure my LO will enjoy himself all the same :).

I have the venue sorted, as my house isn't big enough, got 17 Adults and 8 LO's coming.

I will be doing some finger foods for the little pickers but will be after lunch so shouldn't think people will be too hungry.

I have decided against games as figure too young for that, but a large duvet will be put down with a few toys, and party bags will be organised.

So all in all think I am sorted... Just got the cake to make (of which I have never done before motherhood LOL...) Fingers crossed it all goes as well as I have visualised....
