Gro bags... When did you stop using them?

Ds is 11 months and moves all around his cot . I stopped using the gro bag when it was really hot and he seems happier . Are you supposed to stop using them when they move? I'm worried he is going to get tangled up in it .

My nearly 2 and a half year old wears hers. It depends what suits your DS. I stopped using it when my DS went into a bed. I believe the company makes them up to age 10!

My DD is 7mo and like you, I stopped using her gro-bag when the weather got really hot last week. She slept better too (although might've been the heat which knocked her out!). She likes to get up on her knees, bum in the air (she sleeps on her tummy now) and I think the gro-bag stopped her doing this. I plan on leaving her out of it now (have I just jinxed the weather?!) and by the time we get to autumn I'll have a rethink. It's warm in her room plus if the weather is cooler I'll lay a muzzy over her.

My dd has been in sleeping bags since about 3 months, now 11 months and is the fidgetiest sleeper ever, they can't get tangled unless the bag is the wrong size i.e too big

CrackedNipplesSuchFun · 02/06/2012 15:46

My DS is one and we still use them. We have ones with arms too and he loves it! He's a real wriggly one and nevers gets caught up.

When he was sleeping in the warm weather with nothing but a sheet he would wake constantly but go back off ok. As soon as we could put his sleeping bag back on he was out for the 9 hrs straight once again :o

bishboschone · 02/06/2012 15:47

It's a proper gro bag one ( if you see what I mean ) but it's 6-18 months so it's quite long . He seems to like moving around the cot but I can't put a cover on him so I wonder how that will work when it gets colder , do you jut out more layers on them ?

We used one until about 22/23 months when DD moved into her big bed.

However we didn't use them when it was really hit in the summer - just nothing or thin blanket then.

paulapantsdown · 02/06/2012 15:49

When DS1 fell 3 feet to the floor when climbing out of the cot!

cheaperthantherapy · 02/06/2012 15:51

My dd decided she didn't want hers at about 14 months, kept trying to undo it... She slept better with a light duvet.

YBR · 03/06/2012 07:45

I don't think ours would sleep without a bag - she throws her limbs about and the bag stops her hitting the cot all the time. I'm going to make her one no thicker than a sheet when the Zip I ordered arrived, so that should cope with hot weather. I guess she'll be in sleeping bags until she moves into a big bed but we'll see.

blackteaplease · 03/06/2012 07:50

I used them until ddi went into a toddler bed at 2.3 but when it was hot i either use the low tog one or just a vest to keep her cool.

LetsKateWin · 03/06/2012 07:52

When DD grew out of hers at around 2 years old I decided it would be more economical to buy a duvet than more Gro bags which she would grow out of again.

Iggly · 03/06/2012 07:56

When DS moved to a bed at 20 months.

So I've got a couple for 18-36 months just sitting there gathering dust!!

ItWasThePenguins · 03/06/2012 08:35

We stopped at about 7 months. I was given them, and didn't really like the idea of him being restricted. Once the weather started to pick up again, he was almost crawling already, so stopped.

ChakotayBlue · 03/06/2012 08:39

I kept my DS in them till he was 4.5. He has bad excema, and the grow bag stops him scratching his legs in the night. They do grow bags up to 6 yrs as far as I know.

HerRoyalPointyness · 03/06/2012 19:00

Both DDs used GroBags until they were 2.5 and told me they wanted a proper duvet - they were in big beds by age 1 but still in the bags (I'm convinced they prevented the DDs from developing a climbing out of bed habit). We had the whole tog range so in hot weather just put then in the 0.5 tog wearing only a nappy - electric fan on in case extra coolness was needed.

If the bag is the correct size, your DC can't get tangled up in it, mine migrated all round their bed in theirs and were fine.

Rhubarbgarden · 03/06/2012 20:20

Dd was in them until she worked out how to take them off at 23 months. She then started removing her pyjamas too, and then her nappy as well, so I tried her with a duvet and pillow and she immediately loved her 'special bed' and it cured the stripping. Actually it was quite annoying because I'd just bought several merino wool toddler bags which cost a blimmin' fortune! Merino ones are great though despite the expense because you can use them all year round - they keep them warm in winter and cool in summer. Lovely things. I hope dc2 gets his wear out of them in due course.

welliebobs · 03/06/2012 20:33

I stopped using mine when my 9 month old ds stood up in his in his cot, tripped on it fell forward and chipped his little front tooth on the side of cot.
I would never recommend them now and would never use them again.
